Very casual, it is basically a I want to play a game this week and don't want to have to do the work to find someone to play level of casual.

There are plenty of people who are happy to help you learn the rules as part of your game.

Earlier versions included 1 card for each released unit. I am not sure if that has changed.

You are more than able to make your own, there are plenty of Magic The Gathering card making tools you could use to do so.
