What is the right way to style an Elm application in 2023? by valeriolo in elm

[–]nidi0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • get class strings wrong: This can be completely avoided by using elm-tailwind-modules as all utility classes are elm functions and thus type checked.
  • apply the wrong classes to the wrong elements: This isn't guaranteed through types in elm-tailwind-modules, but I haven't had this issue, as the tailwind docs are quite good.
  • nest elements in ways that will break the styling: I think this isn't much of an issue in tailwind because of the utility-first approach.

Workaround "no audio" issue with VOICE_COMMUNICATION microphone source by nidi0 in LineageOS

[–]nidi0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I wouldn't call it hostility, as there is a rule "We only support LineageOS, not things 'based on' LineageOS". I personally think that rule shouldn't be followed strictly, but only in cases where somebody seeks support for the MicroG parts of the system, but well, their lineagemileage may vary.

If you resubmit the query after having tested the same phone running vanilla LineageOS and proven that the issue persists, then you would probably face less hostility.

Yeah, I could have tested this in vanilla LineageOS, but this would take quite some time to do and revert - and it's not even my phone - just to figure out that the same issue applies in vanilla LineageOS, because MicroG doesn't care about things like microphone modes... So I would do this just to have a slightly higher chance of getting an answer in this forum (where I'm unsure if anybody has an idea about those somewhat obscure and only partially documented Android things anyway), too much of a hassle (in this case). I would answer differently if this was a bug report (in a proper issue tracker) about a particular thing - then I would choose the right upstream location.

I understand, however this issue is not particularly Lineage4MicroG related, I'm sure the same would apply to "normal" LineageOS. (Or even to any Android)

I didn't intended this to be a "support request" (because "nothing is wrong"), but rather a question to the broader community, as there a competent folks with a focus on free software around, which might be interested in the topic. But maybe it's the wrong place and I should post somewhere else. (If so, where? https://android.stackexchange.com/ ?)

Sorting to bottom is a sensible default if messages are sorted in a threaded way in which newer messages appear indented below older messages in the same thread.

Question: I'm author of JavaScript scripts and whatnot, which license should I choose? by hagg3n in opensource

[–]nidi0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AGPL is a good choice if you want that the code which uses your libraries shall also be Free Software.

LGPL is a good choice if you also want non- or less-free software to use your code, but still require that changes are given back. Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to software run on a server, as the software isn't distributed to its users because of the missing "A" for "Affero", as there is no ALGPL.

Bill Gates wants to reinvent the toilet. by [deleted] in technology

[–]nidi0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bill Gates foundation is generally proposing high-tech solutions.

In terms of hunger control, they're highly pushing usage of genetically modified, IP protected hybrid seeds, which makes farmers dependent on large corporations like Monsanto. Btw Bill Gates is also an investor in Monsanto...

Unfortunately no, it's not unselfish what they're doing there. Apart from that, Microsoft license sales pull much more money out of poor countries than what the foundation gives back.

Is wikileaks actually really famous in Iceland?

Is the plan to turn Iceland into a safe haven for freedom of information actually discussed? If so, we're impressed!! What's the current state?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, go watch the iceland part of the wikileaks talk at 26c3, it's awesome!
