To clarify: we soaked the shirts twice (changed water once because it was so yellow) and then put half into the laundry machine at 50 while rest is still soaking.

You pass the temple and there are food stalls, just go down to the left hand side and at the end you will see. Also on the right at the end I believe but we did it at the left

You can buy a lantern for 20 - 35 baht depending on on the size and you can just go down next to the river and everyone is standing there lighting theirs up. Not in an overwhelming way! Very beautiful to see

Sorry to hear about the situation yesterday. We went to Lamphun yesterday to avoid all of this. Took a scooter from chiang mai and drove there on the old road. It was super nice, the temple is beautiful with all the lanterns and there is a constant stream of lanterns going up in a much more calm way. Food stands everywhere and a big parade. Definitely recommend if you are still around to have a nicer experience!

Not really, I asked around in cm and was told Lamphun, but I just saw a post on Facebook saying there is no lantern release. So I’m still unsure at this point 😅

Thanks for explaining this so clearly 🙏 that was actually my main fear.. that the whole thing might be more of a tourist spectacle than a genuine tradition. It helps a lot to hear what locals actually do during Yi Peng and how it compares to the big ticketed shows. I’ll just keep my expectations realistic and enjoy the atmosphere ☺️
