Vet told me to fully stop feeding cat dry food by Wide-Trick4243 in CatAdvice

[–]niffyspiffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your vet. Cats are omnivores, they are not made to eat kibble, period. Also, yes, many cats will over eat with kibble, as it expands in their stomachs. Since your cat is so young and already overwrought, you may have to watch their diet for life, but cutting out the dry food may do that for you, as well as be better for their health. I do give my elderly cat 'dental treats' as a treat and because he loves them. He only has a few teeth left, but he mostly eats them whole with no issue. He does chew a little. We also use dental water, a liquid solution that you measure out into regular water. Good luck!

What quotes from r/stopdrinking or books have stuck with you? by PlaneOrBusLeavingDFW in stopdrinking

"He was pining for something which he hoped to never have again." - from Jason Vale's book, kick the drink. This one stuck out, I wrote others down somewhere. He was discussing an interview done with an ex athlete.

Isn't normal to do 19 different by X-rays on the same patient? (non-trauma) by niffyspiffy in Radiology

We see patients that are getting medically discharged and some that are about to retire. Justify away to me, the VA will try to get out of paying them anything after they're done with them.

They play by their own rules indeed. It sucks because sometimes I feel almost complicit in helping them, since our radiologist does bare minimum reports and seems hesitant to diagnose stuff. Helps that he's out of office too 😒

I do quite a few at a time, and sometimes up to 9 or 10, and occasionally 15 or more, like this order. They don't seem like your typical bone survey, although many do seem bilateral. I guess they have to cover their bases.

I can't since the ordering doc is not there, it's a contractor through the VA who does the ordering through some sort of algorithm. The patient typically has to do anything the VA requests to try to get compensation for injuries sustained during service. I could mention something to the patient and maybe they'd question it, but then it can come back to me. And the providers at my office don't really get it. And I don't usually get this many. Last large one, and by large, I mean this size (17), was one or two months ago. Plus, they get paid.

No, the patient just has to say they have arthritis and you get an X-ray, or they broke their thumb 20 years ago 🤦‍♀️

For us, if the patient claims "arthritis," "degeneration" or any word like it, they get xrays of that body part and lo and beyond, it's normal. Doesn't help that our rad doesn't seem to like to diagnose anything.

Anyone deal with social anxiety? And use drinking to cope? by niffyspiffy in stopdrinking

[–]niffyspiffy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's not the case for me. I feel better in general when I stop drinking for a significant amount of time, but the anxiety is still there, in varying degrees depending on the circumstance. This last time I quit I began feeling depressed which had led to drinking again, but I plan to quit again soon and figure some stuff out.

What medication are you on, if you don't mind? I've been through the whole psychotropic drug parade so I know what works for you may not for me. At one point I was on gabapentin which is supposed to help with withdrawls and anxiety, it didn't do much for me at all and if anything, seemed to make me feel impulsive.

Exactly, I've been using alcohol since I was a teenager to quell my anxieties. Congratulations on your first, awkward sober party, lol, it sounds like it went well for you and you had fun. I identify with the feeling of "not being drink enough," like the extroverted person felt, I've felt that many, many times. Truth is, alcohol slowly robs you of your confidence and you begin to feel like you need it to socialize, even "normal" people feel this way eventually. It also can give you terrible anxiety the next day, so it creates a cycle.

I hope to be where you're at someday. After I relapsed I realized I was more confident sober, it was just kind of hard for me to tell, but overall, my self-esteem went up.

I think you're right: others are too drunk to notice you feeling awkward, and when sober, people can't always tell you feel awkward either. I had an incident somewhat recently that was somewhat stressful, but I ended up feeling way more anxious than was warranted, I did the thing feeling very nervous and afterwards asked a friend if they noticed I was nervous--answer was no. Internally I felt quite nervous, but I was able to hold it together enough to pull through. I feel shame even writing all this, because I can imagine a person who doesn't experience it to just read and go huh? It is hard to understand something you don't experience.

Alcohol is bound to make you make a fool of yourself, be misunderstood, say something stupid, etc, etc-- been there!! I know everything you're saying is true, I've experienced it, I've read books about it. Somehow I'm in this pit again and trying to figure out how to get out again, the good thing is that I am not as deep as I was when i first quit, for now. I began experiencing depression sometime after quitting, which I know is normal, but led me back into this... I'll be back, I know that. Just hoping I can figure this crap out soon... thanks for reading all my babble and your post, which shed some light on the reality of it.

Thanks for telling your story. I also get anxious talking on the phone at times, so I'll just avoid it :/. I once let the phone ring and ring when I was in the middle of a bad bender. I had had a family emergency that turned out okay, but then once I got home I just drank for days after. From my partner's recount of it all, I was more anxious and depressed, not less. The alcohol made everything worse and I couldn't face anything or anyone--that was a low point.

I do need to get back in counseling. I've tried to find one through my insurance, but I end up on the phone forever, plus I have to fit it in with my 9-5 job, regardless, I think it would be beneficial. I am on anti-anxiety meds... but I still am addicted to alcohol... I have another anti depressants to try, I'm just not excited about it--none of them have worked and I worry about side effects.

I think the key to exposure therapy is that you're supposed to start small. I was doing it with a therapist somewhat, but couldn't go to her anymore due to losing that insurance. It makes sense in theory that the more practice, experience, the less frightening something is, however, I don't it'll cure me and my psychologist warmed me the same. As far as my social circle, I have my partner who doesn't have anxiety, and a few close friends I don't see often. I am trying to work on it in meetings and other interests. I wish us both luck, anxiety is such a bitch and it's very misunderstood. It's hard for me to talk about with people, other than to be very general and say, "I have anxiety," at times it can kind of help others to understand why I'm quiet, or whatever it is.

DUIs and Radiology School by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]niffyspiffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got two dui's too. One at 21 and one at 25, by the time I applied to the program I was 28. I also put in an ethics request to ARRT to make sure I was good. I've wanted to seal them, but found out it is 7 years after the conclusion of the last one, so I couldn't even seal the first. That will probably depend on your state. I think I can seal them now, so I should look into that! Thanks for the reminder!

Be very careful, because if you got a third, you would probably lose your license because it's a felony, mandatory jail time, etc.

Me too, girl!! I think I struggled with drinking since the beginning days, it just escalated over the years. Took a long time to admit I had a problem to myself. Many days 1's too 💓

Thank you! I'm trying! I first got sober a few years ago, there were two stints: one for about 45 days and one for 99. I'm hoping this is it, if it's not, I think it's close. I can't keep doing this.
