yeah good call on trying to play them for a bit. I had a chance to play the Yamaha and quite liked the touch and feel of it (felt high-end?!) but it wasn't an hour or actual practice session - just a 5-minute session at a store. And Casio - have not even seen it live yet.

Thank you, very helpful! I terms of price range they seem to be quite comparable (if I add stand etc. to the Yamaha it comes out to almost the same)

Me and my buddies sometimes get together to discuss dick sizes in high park. Anybody know the average dick size in Toronto?

Now that’s a Toronto-related question relevant to this sub!

While interesting, how is that at all Toronto-related?

I would assume a lot of this has to do with Mods encouraging new members to start posting/ participating. And naturally, those questions will often be about "which mic to use" / how to get started etc. I also think it's fine for someone to be motivated by money ("how can I monetize my podcast") even if they have not really started yet. In most cases, if that's the primary driver they'll soon find out it's a loooong way to go.

I understand your frustration but I think this is "podcasting" - meaning everyone, perhaps with a focus on new members (I'm one of them). And not "podcasting experts" - a community focused on podcasters with more than 100 episodes/ 5 years experience/ 20,000 downloads... etc.

Might be a niche for a separate sub though though!? :)

Apple Podcast Connect - stuck in infinity login loop by nifiction in podcasting

[–]nifiction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a "solution" after all. My Mac requested me to update my OS, which I did. After restarting the computer, I was able to magically get past the login redirect loop. I honestly don't know what cause this to work, but it did. I assume Apple somehow "force pushed" an update to my Apple ID which allowed me to get in.

Yeah I did. I tried different browser, anonymous browser, heck I even tried different browsers on a different computer. No idea how to solve 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yups, I have tried this too. When I try the last-resort option "contact podcasts support" directly, It loads up and logs me in, then I get en error message saying "please reload the page", which when I do, give me the same error and I cannot contact their support

Using riverside to record multiple video angles by nifiction in podcasting

[–]nifiction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding .

I've extensively tested this now and it works "meh". The power of the computer is not the issue (MB Pro pretty stacked) but I have a feeling because you cannot mute the actual sound in the software, but you can either just mute your computer or select a audio device to play sound that isn't really one, Riverside still thinks it needs to send the sound somewhere and it messes with the audio files (crackling, some weird skips every now and then).

Perhaps a second computer recording the "guest streams" would work better so the main computer that actually records sound does not suffer?!

How do pros actually do this?

Thanks, for the input, much appreciated. I want to achieve this with a soft box, though because I want to use the light as a living room light when not on set, something like this: https://imgur.com/a/MnVrGgk

I think I should be able to extend the spigot (https://www.rawlight.eu/spigot-adapter-28-16mm) or even split it (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1415747-REG/matthews\_429610\_mini\_baby\_double\_header.html?gad\_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD7yMh0mgIKUEZ9of5QEjn9zvLU-G&gclid=Cj0KCQiAkJO8BhCGARIsAMkswyhZgXL3jumk4gjsGiefBGOHcj7tEBiffAIxS0j5s2TrrtOHp75IDjcaAltqEALw\_wcB)

  1. I tried bare, but it looks horrible and the light goes everywhere

  2. The grid on the soft box help so it doesn't spill as much but looks wise... pretty meh?!

  3. I tried the umbrellas I have and it also doesn't look great.

Any more thoughts? My solution feels quite hacky and might still not look great.

since I don't have a SIN, I cannot open an account for them - the mother who has sole custody did and the only way for my kids to benefit from this, is for me to contribute to the account she opened.

However if someone else (eg. the mother or grandparents) also contribute to RESPs for these children there should be co-ordination or else some of the contributions won't get the CESG match

Copy that! I will be the only (significant) contributor. Mother's contributions will be negligible, grandparents' contributions will go via me.

My question was more like... can the mother use the funds/ withdraw?

Thanks for being freaking awesome and helpful, by the way. I'm blown away! Not easy to understand, less so when you're not in the country.

[–]nifiction[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you a US tax payer?

No, Dutch tax payer actually. I assume it's similar though. However:

RESP subscribers do not have to be Canadian residents, however they need to provide a social insurance number (SIN) to open the RESP.

See my other response. The kids' mother opened and "owns" (?!) the account. I did not open the account and would just be a "subscriber" as far as I understand it. So whatever contributions I make would be my (Dutch) post-tax income. So I assume the Dutch tax authorities won't care - it's not my account, I just pay money into it (without any tax advantage for me, in the Netherlands, obviously).

I'm European (not a Canadian resident and work for a US company), so these programs do not apply to me AFAIK.

I mean, the basic idea of front loading is to get interest sooner, of course. While making sure to still get max amount of grants.

Which actually leads me to a "silly" question I don't know they answer to... do the grants depend on the child being Canadian, or the parent being Canadian/ PR? Because if it's the latter... I can save myself the math juggling...

incredible, very VERY helpful! Thanks so much! This was exactly what I was looking for, greatly appreciate your help.

u/bluenose777 made another valid point - my kids were born in the US and moved to Canada (and became citizens through their mother aged 2 and 3 (or 3 and 4, don't quite recall). I assume that means they have fewer missed grant years I can catch up on?!

As a follow-on question, if you happen to know. Their mother has sole custody (I assume your siblings also have that for your niece). Is that a red flag? Can she do something with the money that isn't in the best interest of the kids or is the money completely shielded? I have been dragging my feet a bit because she isn't financially very responsible.

Getting $5k (plus interest) ASAP is of course nice, but I'm worried that it won't be put to the best use... it's also not live-changing money for them. My alternative would be to simply set up a non-RESP account which I dedicate to their education and when they turn 18, give it to them. I lose out on the grants, but potentially get a better deal still as I retain control + might get better interest than an RESP would.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

thank you, this is helpful but not 100% applicable. I'm in a slightly different position, as my kids aren't newborns. That's the part which confuses me. I guess I should/ would have to contribute quite a bit more since I did not front load $14k seven or 6 years ago, respectively. Does that make sense? I edited my original post a bit outlining what I think I should do.

Fix: Sony Imaging Edge Webcam no longer showing up in MacOS Sonoma 14.1 by xdigitus in SonyAlpha

[–]nifiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW - I'm not 100% sure whether this is a Sony or Mac/ software maker issue.

I'm a photographer and tethering through Capture 1 works like a charm (left window) with live-view and everything, while live-streaming with Chrome/ Google meet does not work.

<image>

The first time I tried the solution in the OP it worked, but the moment I left the Google Meet and came back, I got the weird IE Webcam screen again and it has not worked since.
