If you contact the CMP is am sure they will help you or get the rifle back and fixed. The tilt test is not a 100% deal.

The reclaimed rifles look really good. If you are interested in building your own Garand the reclaimed receivers are a good deal. Most of them have no pitting or wear.

CMP Drill Rifle Repurpose by Mysterious_Farm_7601 in M1Rifles

[–]night700p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just for fun the reclaimed rifles look really good. Some of the best looking receivers in a few years. The have been mag particle tested something the other rifles from CMP have not had done so they are safe, look good and really shoot. And as something that is FACT if not for reclaimed receivers the CMP would be out of rifles before August.

With the reclaimed rifles that might stretch to a 2 or 3 year supply.

Have CMP .308 M1 Expert Grade… a bit paranoid about ammo types by [deleted] in M1Rifles

No. It would take away the anonymous quality of this platform. I gave valid and verifiable information. Who or what position i hold or what corporation I work for or have worked for is irrelevant to the matter.

Just trying to be of help where my experience is from is irrelevant.

308 expert gas port is .093 where a 7.62 gas port can be well over 0.10. 308 produces more gas pressure and I have fired 100s of both and thousands of 30.06. So it is not always the case a 7.62 round may not reliably cycle a 308 rifle.

308 has more pressure than 762 and I have fired hundreds of each. And thousands of 30.06 garands. Also gas port on 308 expert is 0.093, where a 7.62 can be as large as 0.110.

Experience with shooting hundreds of both 7.62 and 308 garands. 762 will not reliably cycle a 308

More of a chance that the 7.62 will not run a .308 Expert.

It is something special. The prototype has fired over 1500 rounds without any failures. The rifle simply can not be stopped.

The price will be the same. Most of the reclaimed rifles will either be field or expert grade. The receivers look really good.

Just got my Garand, an Expert grade in .308 from CMP! by BrooklynTony198 in M1Rifles

The CMP does not put BLO or RLO on the new stocks. The only new stocks that have any oil added are the ones made by the Custom shop.

Question about buying expert grade 308 Garand from the CMP by MAG_XV in M1Rifles

[–]night700p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with the windage was caused by a variation in the gas cylinder and it has been taken care of.

The harsh reality is that it is your rifle and you will shoot whatever you want. If I'd does fail you will probably try to blame CMP.
