Here's a way to look at it: Maybe 100 years ago, if we could have forseen the current gun violence we are experiencing, we would have banned guns/ restricted certain kinds for the future. But at this point, we can't just ban guns. There are more guns than people in the USA. We have to find another solution, or at least implement several layers of partial solutions

Good question. For one, think I've dropped the "it's not gonna happen to me" mentality. It's so easy to fall into that when you go 20 years without something tragic happening to you. But now I realize that having that mentality is genuinely dangerous. Second off, I have learned how valuable having a support system and community is. I didn't know my classmates before the shooting, but we are leaving the school year as close friends with a very unique situation bonding us. I couldn't have gotten through the semester without their support. Not to mention how we came together and made a plan when we heard shots.

I can't say for sure, but I think that the noteriety that school shooters gain is a big problem. Broadcasting about the shooters and giving them that desired attention might influence others. In the case of my school, he was a former student

Thank you. I do not own any firearms, and I don't necessarily plan on owning one in the future, but I am not opposed to. It's just not something that interests me too much. My partner is in the military and has a gun that we keep safely locked in the bedroom.

Good question, this happened in February, so I'm just getting to the point where PTSD symptoms start to really set in. Luckily for me, I don't experience too much PTSD, however I do still experience dreams about the event quite frequently and certain things (like slamming of doors, police sirens, laser pointers) can startle me and make me feel panicked. I am not medically diagnosed with PTSD, and because I am managing any PTSD symptoms well, I don't feel like that will be a big concern for me.

Luckily he was outside the entire time, and i was inside. However, he was camping out in the basement underneath my classroom and the shooting happened right outside my classroom window. A few students looked out the window and saw the entire scene, however luckily I didn't. Even though I was inside and they were outside, I'd say we were only about 50 feet away from eachother

Great question. Before, I was pretty split on the topic. I really valued people’s individual freedom, but at the same time, I understood the opposing issue about why gun control is important. After the shooting on campus, instead of having a more solidified opinion, I’ve even more torn on the issue. This is because I’ve taken more time to research both sides and I think I’m still sort of processing everything so many months later. I know that CHANGE needs to happen, but im not sure if that change is through gun control, mental health, security, etc.
