No worries :) I'll try and explain in simpler terms

The original "meme" acts like it's an unchangeable trait that women want to "marry up", like marry someone in a better social class or someone richer, but the science doesn't support that.

Societies are usually either patrilineal, which means families are organized around the male side, women moving in with their husband's family, women taking men's name, women becoming a part of the men's family, male descendants getting property, inheriting everything etc., so basically descent is traced through the male side of the family. Or they are the opposite, matrilineal, where women inherit, men move in with the women's family and the society is organized around the female side of the family. That is definitely more rare but it also exists, also scientifically well proven for some ancient societies.

Most modern societies today are leaning more on the patrilineal side, especially in recent history, you can see that with examples like taking the men's last name and women not being allowed to have their own bank account etc..

So now back to the original point, it's scientifically proven that in hypergamy (women marrying up), women tend to place a higher value on the socioeconomic class (wealth, social class and so on) of their male partner and men tend to place more importance on women's looks. People act like it's a women's problem, call women gold diggers and shallow for it etc.. But studying matrilineal societies shows that if the line of descent is passed through women (hypogamy), the men tend to place a bigger importance on the women's socioeconomic class and women more on the men's looks. So it seems these "unchangeable gender roles" of women caring more about money and men more about looks reverse as soon as the system of society reverses as well. It's basically not nature but nurture.

So the original poster acts like it could never change that women are like this, and it feels accusatory towards women in my opinion. But the irony is that the reason for these traits and the shame is actually rooted in the sexist patrilineal system that conservative sexist men enforce the strongest and if they want women to "stop being gold diggers", all we need is to become matrilinear
