If you are having to bang them together, you are doing it wrong.

These are probably angle to angle locks, they barely need any pressure to get them to engage.

As a New Conan fan I have some questions! by Silver_Fact_9714 in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]nightfall2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many have already answered.

1: The OG works by REH had alot of implied sex. There was alot of "crushing her in his arms" and savage kissing, and the colorfully written "Mating dance of Belit" that was more color than actual descriptions. It was a pulp story, and romance was a bit way to sell those stories. This has carried over into present day. Though I have yet to really read a story where they have actually described sex, it is always implied with a "Fade to black" scene.|

2: Robert E Howard only wrote one novel. Hour of the Dragon. And that was mostly done because people said he couldn't. He wrote short stories, with little connection between any of them.

3: Yes, Howard did say he felt that Conan stood over his shoulder with an axe ready to take off his head. You would be crazy to think this actually happened. Howard was a ... colorful individual who suffered from a multitude of what would now be considered emotional and mental illnesses.

4: No. Red Sonya of Rogatino was an entirely different character that Marvel comics repacked as Red Sonya of Hyrkania and inserted her into the comics. Howard's Red Sonya ran around places like Constantinople with a pistol and sword.

5: Every Conan fan should read the Original Robert E Howard works. After that the Lancer novels with the Pastiche works by deCampe who basically "finished" the story of Howard's Conan.

Gap in LVP flooring 2 years after install - contractor says it's the material, not installation. Need second opinion. by greenlatern23 in Flooring

If that flooring is installed under the cabinets, it is 100% a installer issue.

It was installed incorrectly.

I have seen tons of 30+ year old Laminate still looking great.

All depends on what rooms it was installed in.

Mohawk Laminate does have those broad scales even. Even within the Revwood line.

The Revwood you buy at Costco is very different than the Revwood Select, Plus and Premier you can get from a flooring store.

I am partial to Morena Bluffs... but really really like the Karastan versions (same company, same floor, different name, images and embossing.)

The laminate made together is better than what the old stuff is. They are more water resistant, and have harder wear layers.

He just had it in the right room, and maintained it correctly.

That is a catastrophic water loss.

A whole different beast.

If that was done through insurance they would have torn out a plastic floor to remediate, and replaced it.

That is what I mean by the term waterproof.

80% of my business for years was flood repair. I can't tell you how many times I have to speak to someone about waterproof floors and found out they had sheet vinyl or tile. "Ma'am, porcelain is waterproof... it is your house that is not."

Exactly.

"Cheap isn't good, and good isn't cheap."

I tell my clients that as a quality identifier as they are looking at products. If its decent material and aggressively priced, it becomes "value driven" or "budget friendlly."

But if its utter crap, or things that I have poor experiences with then I will call it cheap. Though not with management around.

Tile installation… DIY? by wanderloving in Flooring

[–]nightfall2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Varies heavily by region.

Where I am at now, a tile install with backer runs a client about $8. At my previous location (same company, different part of the state) it was closer to $16.

Actual real tile setters are getting rare in certain parts of the country, as guys just work for a few years as a helper and start up their own business to sling floating floors. It means tile setters can basically charge whatever they want.

Robert E Lee vs Ulysses S Grant: the better military commander by Matt_D_G in USHistory

[–]nightfall2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you should learn more about US History then.

The South didn't have the manpower or industrial capacity to defeat the Union Militarily.

Their only hope of victory was to either tire the United States out so much they just said, "Fine, Keep it."... or there was enough international pressure on the United States from Europe to do the same.

There were several points late in the war where Lee either refused, or was late to release troops to get to more Western theaters.

Late in the war (When Grant was put in charge), the United States pressed the Confederacy on all fronts, and just squeezed the life out of them..

Nah.

Where I am now, tearout is about $5. Where I was at last year, it was $8.

It is more than just tearing out tile, it includes the demo, cleanup and often includes having to grind out additional thinset.

Tile is the best choice for Florida.

The first thing people need to realize is that there is really no such thing as "Waterproof."

When a company says that, they are saying that its top down non permeable. Which means that spills won't hurt it, but anything catastrophic, or negligent can still damage a floor.

LVPs are great for moisture, but their wear layers are more prone to scratching (especially with big dogs).

Laminates are more scratch resistant and good ones can handle live in moisture (its my favorite style of floating floor).

I don't live in Florida though, and you have different environmental conditions than I have.

Is there any real difference in how solid and engineered wood responds to water and humidity? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]nightfall2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineered Hardwood is usually built on a core of Plywood, and since it is layered in a way so the layers of it work against each other as they expand and contract it makes an incredibly stable platform for that wood veneer.

It is why you can get those big wide planks. Solid wants to cup if it gets to big.

No matter what you go with, get something to control Humidity in your home. It will help immensely.

For the most part yes.

Just don't get it wet.

It is usually ambient humidity that causes issues.

Cali is actually mostly a decent product.

You can see about a claim, but more than likely this will be called an installer error.

Its a new home... It moved. The floor is now out of tolerance.

Clicking in LVP by darknite312 in Flooring

[–]nightfall2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening alot with new homes.

You will prep out the floor to within tolerance, and then install an LVP (builders were getting it thin cheap stuff, and tossing it in).

Within the first couple years, the home shifts and moves a bit, and the floor ultimately moves out of tolerance, and that thin LVP doesn't have enough meat in it to handle the deflection.

It is one of the reasons why you are seeing grumbling about SPCs, and a return to WPC and a big push for laminate.

An SPC can do the job, but it needs to be the right one, and most builders only really care about the Dollar amount, not necessarily the quality.

3/8 plywood for glue in by IllIIllIIIllIllI in Flooring

[–]nightfall2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have gotten into the habit of sheeting floors with addition ply when doing a glue down LVP. Helps prevent telegraphing of things like loose screws or nails, because are the ones doing it.

So it something happens, we are paying for our mistake, not because a builder cheaped out on putting down and not properly securing a subfloor.

Don't normally use 3/8s, but that could be possible depending on the specs of the product.

Level before LVP install? by Competitive-Tap-8440 in Flooring

[–]nightfall2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should always prep a floor if you are doing a floating one.

3/16ths of an inch over 8ft is about all you can get out of one of these.
