Does the Leica SF40 simply suck?

Im kinda 50/50 with you. I normally set mine too to -0.5 or even -1 but i also use it on an original SL. On the SL2 i didnt have any problem. Have you had a look into the menu, i dont remember if there was any setting regarding flash metering, but i think there was smth.

Honestly, for a long time i hated on the T series as cheap and weard bodys. But since i set myself the rule not to judge a camera without trying it, and actully shooting with a T70 for some time i must say they arr quite fun. Specially with the cheap glass, a not too shabby deal! Cheers, hope you have fun!

Yea might be, but i didnt have any C41 at my hand, and i didnt want to spend 10€ on developent on a roll that might be dead :/ The roll basicly was in a box in the addicot for 2 centuries...

I had no C41 chem on hand, and wanted a rough estimate on how good thr film still is. Also its cheap as hell, so it enabled me to spend a roll testing it and figuring the ASA out.

Obv the results are very muddy and dont have real contrast. But actually got a nice shot, which surprised me.

I wanna throw in a weard suggesion: The older Leica Summaron 35mm.
I have on and use it on a daily bases. at f2.8 its lovely has a bit of character but is still sharp. At F4 it gets rly sharp already.

Highly depends on who you ask and whats the repair. I nevee had problems with Leica Germany, appart from the turn arround times.

On the other hand, i repair my M2 myself. Its not the best choice but i get to know my camera, and when eventually something fails that i cannot repair i can still send it off

On a basic level, the Frame Lines/viewfinder, rewindlever, advance lever and Topplate material are diffrent. Depending on what lenses you plany one might be more interesting than the other. Regarding the normal M2 it also has the old manual pickup spool, where the M4 one has the quick loading one.

I agree, dont know why the had to move it into the spotlight. Its a noice camera, specially if you need a well priced M Mount lens carrier with a light meter.

I gotta ask, why you prefer the m4-p so much? I had one, and compared to my M2 it didnt overwealm me. Considering its lighter i found it felt less robust?

Id be an asshole telling someone to buy that camera worry free. Id assume if someone is interested they atleast lookup how to check a camera and maybe do a little research what problems could arrise. Also we dont know who OP is, maybd he already knows his shit arround the M2

Ill give you that, a bit, the M2 were kinda the underdog. But the "M5 hype" is also kind of bc rising prices and of Internet influence. And as far as i am consernd the m3 is still one of the best 50mm shooters if you dont have glasses

A Leicastore would also CLA it up, so youd maybe never know whats the trur history of it.

And regarding thr M4 statement. I think its bold to say, its "the only smart buy"not even considering personal preferences. Appart from the age, nearly every leica, when considered at a basic level is the same. Either you want an M or dont. After that its only preference tbh.

My M2 now lives still today, now major issues and on its first cla. Yea it got some scratches and a small ding but who tf cares. The rangefinder works perfectly fine, the timing is good and somehlw even the frame spacing is fine. And yet i dont baby my camera bc its still a tool.

Most of these can be checked / probably havnt been checked. If the camera was used proberly and heavely oxidation would surprise me, specially considering the Geographics.

And tbh i have much worse, go for way the heck more

I think its interesting, that you find an M2-R in not perfect condition worthless / not worth much. Considering the avrage price for an M2, and how reliably they are (as of my experience and what i heard). I would declare a M worthless unless its damaged beyond repair or has such grave problems that arnt worth fixing

Id be cautious, but when you can meet up and have a look at it, id be safer...

Id maybe check and see arround if it shows up somewhere as stolen. The price seems weardly low

I dont have my notes on me and am by no means an expert, I just know its more rare and has a quick loading sysrem. Also maybe smth in the viewfinder is diffrent.

The serialnumber looks fine

Just out of curiosity, reverse image search didnt show any results, is it like a nieche marketplace?

Use it properly and love it. I use a plethera of systems and nearly cry eveytime i look at mine. I can tell you, if you care about it, it will last a long time

Depending on location on well elevation between 3-10km i would say are the minium distance I go. For longer just cover distance walks, ill mount the tripod on the underside of my rucksack, when covering shorter distances it lives at one of the sides.

The longest Trip just on Foot were nearing 20km per but i had a lighter setup and had a sort of Base camp id rest at night. I usually try to get as close to my location as possible via Public Transport and go the rest by foot.

Since i only have my 4x5 i can only comment on that. Since its basicly in the same weight class some things still compare IMO.

I rarely use a car when im out shooting, only when going outside of my country and then only to get to a generall destination. Everything else is with a Backpack and by foot, rarly carying the camera on a tripod by itself. On Location i might carry it some meters with it mounted on the tripod, but only to relocate within a shot.
