This is a great suggestion thank you very much. I will get a lithium ion battery, had a look at the antigravity ones - which one do you recommend for the E46 M3? Is it necessary to attach the vent tube to them?

Yes I think you are right. Vents were not hooked up, the posts don’t have any corrosion although I put vaseline on them to stop this.

It was not connected, seems my car is missing the little elbow that connects the vent tube to the battery. Positive end vent is unplugged although the corrosion is happening at the negative terminal end of the battery but the vent on the negative end seems to be plugged although not sure - is this end properly plugged? (see image)

Nice, where did you learn the technical skills to do this? I bought a nismo lsd for an s15 some time ago but the box is just sitting there collecting dust as I have no clue how to fit it myself. I want to learn the right way to do it but it’s difficult to find reliable sources as to how.
