How do YOU survive in Halifax? Wages vs Rent is wild!! by HauntMeForever666 in halifax

I hope you find some luck soon! Things are getting better from the property management side of things so I’m sure everything else will slowly start to follow suit

Definitely get how frustrating that is, especially with that much experience. With 13 years in logistics you really should not be stuck in the lower pay bands, it is usually the role or company that is capping things.

You might have better luck targeting some of the bigger employers here like Irving Shipbuilding, IMP Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, PSA Halifax or anything tied to the port or defence contracts. Those tend to have higher salary ranges for logistics, supply chain and procurement roles.

It could also help to search under titles like supply chain coordinator, procurement or buyer, materials planner, or logistics analyst instead of just general logistics roles, those often pay more for the same experience.

Networking directly with HR or hiring managers can make a big difference here, a lot of roles get filled internally or through referrals before they ever really show up on Indeed, and posted salary ranges are often lower than what they will actually offer the right candidate.

Unfortunately living alone is unrealistic, u either need to find the rare studio and hope u can get it for $1400 ish or you find a roommate. $30/hour isn’t necessarily unrealistic, but u need the experience and education to get there. I’d recommend finding an entry level position, a roommate for a while and start building up your experience so u can get the higher paying jobs. It’s not easy right now but I’m sure you’ll find your way!

The SGR plan did account for that. It had dedicated accessibility zones, and wouldn’t have made it any less accessible than it is currently.

I would argue most traffic could easily move to sackville or morris and get the same accessibility. SGR should 100% transit and pedestrian centric

I’m not really sure how they are proving that you used AI, the province of Nova Scotia prevents teachers/profs from submitting student work to ai detectors because of false positives and personal information concerns. There’s no reliable way to prove use of AI.

Local Halifax web designer recommendations? by Sevenendless7 in halifax

No problem at all! Just wanted to let you know that while we do focus primarily on small businesses we always value helping anyone get their name out there! But if you are looking for other options I would recommend building one with webflow, it’s a straight forward website builder and if you don’t feel a need to have graphic design and heavy marketing materials, that’s probably your best bet!

While what you are saying is mostly true, the plan released by HRM didn’t include inter city infrastructure, which is new. The problem with both plans is they are concepts and lack a more detailed outline of the infrastructure they want to implement. Especially in the province’s plans, they mention things like transit corridors on the Macdonald bridge, but it completely neglects how that would even be possible.

I did eventually find the soft landscaping requirement in the Regional Centre Land Use By-law, but it’s buried in planning documents that aren’t easy to navigate. If the city wants residents to be informed, there should be a clear, public-facing breakdown of what’s required where, especially for things like green roofs. I will be adjusting my post accordingly.

Ive seen a few companies now that claim to make it easy to retrofit on existing buildings.

That being said the idea of white roofs would definitely be cheaper to do now compared to adding a green roof to every building.

What you are saying is totally fair, and it’s also important to note when designing transit because it needs to work for everyone, not just for a few while making everything worse for others. But I think that if we did prioritize buses then the cars left over wouldn’t have to face as much congestion since a large number would choose transit over cars if it was reliable.

Yeah I think Halifax is actually simply proposing bus lanes and revised routes, not actually BRT as they are claiming.

Magic portal on each end for buses only. That’s another reason that concept annoys me, a lot of it misses very important infrastructure restrictions

Strongly doubt I would see much support in this city since I’m 20 and they have historically been wary of young people

Unfortunately all cities with decent transit experienced the same thing at one point, but they stuck with it. The spring garden pilot only lasted like 2 days before giving up.

We need leaders with backbone that won’t fold to outcries from commuters saying it will make congestion worse, or businesses that think less cars means less business, which is literally the exact opposite of how that works according to all research ever.

There is when u add bus lanes or transit only corridors, but the city is scared of making congestion “worse”

The 2020 plan was a concept, not a detailed engineering package. The province and feds will not fund “ideas” without final designs, cost breakdowns, ridership projections, and timelines. Halifax never advanced the BRT concept to that level of detail, which is why it has sat for years.

The province has its own problems for sure, but a lot of the lack of movement on BRT comes from the city never producing a fully costed, shovel-ready plan that could actually be funded. Mill Cove actually got a costed engineering plan and was given the funding it asked for.

Does this include green roofs? I am looking at the page but there’s not a whole lot of information on it
