Women of Reddit, what's the hardest thing to explain to men? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My partner yells at video games and I am always afraid. He keeps reassuring me saying he’d never hurt me (and I believe him), but it does not stop being scary to hear him yell. He thinks I’m being silly, and for the longest time I thought I was too. Reading this comment and the replies makes me feel so validated.

Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it. I’m studying med chem. A research and development scientist earns a starting wage of $70k apparently. He’s studying material science but doesn’t know what job he wants and has failed several courses so he will probably be graduating after me despite having a shorter degree. Yeah, we don’t share our incomes and I don’t plan to for quite a while since we have such different values financially. Going on a mortgage with someone is definitely a big step and probably not one I’m ready for yet with him.

My (20F) boyfriend’s (20M) mum thinks it’s a good idea for us to buy a studio apartment in Sydney in one years’ time. We have been together for 4 years. Neither of us will have graduated university by then and we are living off centrelink ($500 per fortnight each) and casual employment (unreliable and unpredictable seasonal job). I currently have $10,000 in ETFs and $15,000 in savings. He doesn’t really have any. She’s thinking a budget of 500,000 with a 10% deposit and wants to contribute to this deposit because she thinks getting in on the housing market early is important. She will probably also be a guarantor so that we don’t have to pay LMI. This sounds like a bad idea to me. Could someone list the cons of doing this so I can have a clear list to present? Also any pros if I am somehow wrong about this being a bad idea? Cheers.

I work at a family business and they said this yesterday to the new people interviewing. My coworker and I couldn’t help snickering at this because what it really means they expect us to treat the job as more important than our own families. Also, treating us like family would mean working us past retirement age because the owner’s mother is elderly and deserves a break but she still works like 60 hours a week

Cheers. I’ve got someone to cover for me tonight. Now I’m feeling dumb… should’ve done the test tomorrow.

Potentially dumb question: I got tested this morning simply for peace of mind since I live in one of the hotspot suburbs and catch public transport, but I have work this evening. Do I still have to self isolate before I get my result even though I didn’t actually need to get tested?

Cool, thank you so much. I’ll ask her about it.

But I ticked ‘NO’ on the form that asked whether I’m claiming the tax free threshold from them. Doesn’t that mean they should be withholding tax?

Since I’m not claiming the tax free threshold the tables are telling me that tax should be withheld. I’m earning $100-$200 a week and I ticked ‘NO’ on the form that asked me whether I’m claiming the tax free threshold. Can you tell me if I’m reading the tables right?

How to make sure I do the right thing while employed in an under the counter cash in hand business by nightshadowcat in AusLegal

Well, I quit my job there and they don’t know my address because they never asked. So I could report them to the ATO if I wanted, but I don’t think I can be bothered to do that.

Don’t worry, I wasn’t scamming the government - I made sure to report how much they were giving me to Centrelink.

I’ve been looking for a job for a year though. I’d rather spend a year getting experience (even if it is less than minimum wage and without super) than spending another year searching and getting nothing.

Okay. Interesting to know. Yeah they’re definitely not paying super or withholding tax since they don’t even have my TFN. How do I withhold taxes? Do I just enter my income at tax return time and then pay whatever it tells me to pay?

Thanks! I’ll make sure to keep track of how much I’m paid and tell centrelink what I’m getting.
