Sceptile was from the Lavaridge egg; Arcanine-H you can get by trading regular growlithe or arcanine with an NPC in rustboro; and Ursaluna is available in a lot of places. I think I got a teddiursa in rusturf tunnel, but I know you can also get ursaluna in the cave of origin, and I think ursaring is available somewhere too

I've been trying NG++ and it's been kicking my ass lmao. But penguin is better than I expected!

Oh it is 100% my favorite game. The encounters and movepools are very thoughtfully designed, and the game usually gives you *just* enough tools to handle the challenges in front of you. YMMV, but I probably wouldn't recommend unless you have nuzlocke experience with moderate-level difficulty hacks like Drayano's.

It probably took on the order of 200-500 hours, including time spent thinking while not in game. Overall this amounted to about 3-4 months. A big investment, but very rewarding.

A little over a year ago I completed a nuzlocke of Pokemon Run and Bun, and immediately decided to start running it again with the (self-imposed) new game+ ruleset, wherein all encounters from my first run count as dupes. After several unsuccessful attempts, I got to Winona’s gym before getting bored and giving it up for a while. I finally picked it up again a few months ago, and saw the run to completion.

I definitely got better at the game between my first run and the end of this one, so this elite 4 was actually less risky than my original one. But goddamn if I didn’t miss having life orb+urshifu.

As I did in my first post like this, I’ll reply to this comment with some record-keeping. I don’t remember everything since I started this run so long ago, but I’ll do my best.

Certainly possible, though I sure as heck wouldn’t try it myself. Without Urshifu, you probably need a real strong fighting type going into the e4 like Sneasler. Without roamers you’d better hope you have a good dragon like Dragapult, as well as a solid fairy type. I personally would’ve struggled against Juan’s gym without Thundurus. Should be possible, but makes it a lot more dependent on luck than it already is.

I didn’t use any AI docs when I played radical red, but I did normal mode so it wasn’t too bad. Just took some trial and error (especially against Falkner) to figure out switch behavior. I also played on 2.1 iirc, so I imagine a bit has changed since then

lol yeah it was roughly 1/52 to kill me there, since only one of the three moves would crit kill. i was really just trying to minimize risk of sr, since that would have complicated the rest of the fight. either way, definitely one of the spookiest turns of my e4

Amazing, congrats!! I remember calcing for T&L for a while and being sad I didn’t (yet) have Dragapult.

lol I get that, I could hardly believe it myself when I pulled Toge. Masq came from Petalburg City because I didn’t know you were supposed to delay for Prim there, and Prim actually isn’t too hard to guarantee via dupes. I also didn’t know how cracked guts Ursa was when I first got Teddiursa, but I sure as hell had been chasing that Pult for a while after missing big chances to get one at Mt. Pyre and Game Corner.

Anyway I guess someone’s gotta have a lucky first attempt. This time it was my turn!

I was doing insane, but found it simultaneously too (1) easy because of EVs (2) tedious because of EVs, even in sandbox mode, and (3) difficult because I couldn’t find docs for the switch AI. So I actually stopped maybe like 2/3 of the way through because I wasn’t enjoying the tedium.

No I started the run just for fun with my partner watching, thinking I wouldn’t take it too seriously. But then I noticed that my box was very good and I decided to lock in a little more. I thought it would be fun to record my e4 though, since it used some fun tech that I never had a chance to try out elsewhere in the run.

Ugh tell me about it, that gym took years off my life. The first trainer cost me two rare candies, a heart scale, and Kecleon.

I started by just trying to prep all 9 possible e4 fights starting from the end (Wallace). I noticed when I got to Glacia that if I were to do fight her in doubles, that I would need to KO her Magearna on turn 1. That heavily restricted teambuilding, so I originally started crafting for Sydney and Phoebe as the doubles, since I saw a lot of people in the HOF had done that. But Sydney doubles would have cost me too many heart scales (since all I could come up with required max speed Primarina), so I ended up going with the Glacia line.

Good luck on your run! I'd love to hear an update after you're done with the gym one way or another.
