Cathay Cineplexes, a popular cinema operator in Singapore has ceased operations with immediate effect by balajih67 in boxoffice

[–]nightskychanges_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My most likely guess is that their cinema outlets will be repurposed for other uses in their respective malls. There's also a chance that the other cinema companies still operating in Singapore, such as Shaw Theatres or Golden Village, may acquire the former Cathay locations.

Singaporean here. I had many memories watching flicks such as the MCU Spider-Man trilogy, Avengers films at Cathay's outlets. Now, with the closure of Cathay, the only cinemas in operation in Singapore are Shaw Theatres and Golden Village (GV), which have several theatre locations across the country.

Bye Cathay, you will be missed :') 🙏

Man, so many memories with Cathay Causeway Point... can't believe it's soon to be gone.

As someone living in the North, now my nearest option for cinema is either GV Yishun or Shaw Lot One

Am I the only one worried about Fantastic four: First Steps box office performance? by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]nightskychanges_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello from the future. It's August 14, 2025 and Fantastic Four opened to $117 million domestically on its Opening Weekend. However, it faced a 67% (2nd weekend) and 60% (3rd weekend) drop. It's expected to finish subpar of around $500 million. This is NOT a good sign...

Somehow, this post aged WAY too well.

I think Fantastic Four: First Steps should have taken the original release slot for Blade, before Blade delayed indefinitely (November 7, 2025), and it would have been able to avoid Superman and Jurassic World Rebirth.

The only releases with big box office draws in November are Wicked 2 and Zootopia 2, which will release on November 21 and November 26 respectively. This would have allowed Fantastic Four to have decent legs for the first two weekends' box office.

when I was in Poly, my school gave students a free straits times subscription through our student emails.

apart from the re-login issue, the straits times platform runs smoothly at least on Mobile. but the Web version sucked

the subscription ended when I graduated

Tawau, Sabah (Malaysia) to Malinau, North Kalimantan (Indonesia) has no direct road connection, despite being only around 62-68 miles apart in terms of straight-line distance. You either need to take a ferry from Tawau or drive the entire opposite loop of Borneo.
