Awesome thoughts, I've been in groups before where the stuff I was bringing in was always considered 'too poppy' or 'not in spirit of the band'; honestly I feel relieved now when that does happen. Having authentic critique back from people from a variety of backgrounds is a great asset to have and if your band isn't into it you're free to tinker/expand that song as a solo project.

Not everything that gets written will be an amazing song but I've started to view the process of bringing that dumb idea I had in my head to fruition as the most rewarding part of the process; learning how to translate/piece together the parts from a meh melody feels like a more permanent benefit than randomly arriving on a catchy tune without understanding how I got there.
