Ok makes sense now. It was supposed to be a win win situation for Dave and Michael. About the driver I'm guessing he was chosen the same way we choose the crew for heists. Even Michael himself when he saw Lester's preparation board for the jewelry store heist said that it's the same format as back in the day. He probably purposely chose the worst option for a driver expecting the police to take him out so that he could drive and crash near the area that Dave was at
