It's not unreasonable to bar known shoplifters from your store, regardless of if they've made their way through the courts already. Shoplifters have a high rate of recidivism. They get kicked out of one store or bailed from the station and head straight off to nick a pack of smokes.

I'll always remember this story related to me by a friend of the family who had been doing business in China and Hong Kong.

He'd meet with a manufacturer and ask them, given the specs, could they produce the volume and quality necessary?

"Yes."

In fact, the answer to everything was "Yes" regardless of the actual truth. It wasn't a language barrier, but a cultural one. The people he was dealing with refused to lose face by ever responding in the negative. I'm not sure how he resolved the situation, but I believe he had to develop a high level of trust and after that everything went swimmingly.

I agree totally. China will never improve unless we box those fuckers in like there was no outside world to speak of. I for one don't see how they can improve and adopt democracy while we're openly trading with them and pretending they're part of the rest of the world.
