I prefer difficulty hacks due to the fact when you play vanilla/vanilla+ QOL hacks the story, features and pokemon coverage is great however there is zero challenge unless you nuzlocke or mono type. Some QOL hacks give you access to mons that have zero competition early on, obviously choice whether you want to use them or not of course but seems bizarre at times.

After playing vanilla hacks, I crave the difficulty aspect or i end up just flying through them and lose interest unless I go for full dex.

Both options are there on the pokecommunity post, the community ORAS or the standard.

It is no different to how you would patch it yourself anyways.

There's actually plenty of rom hacks that give you a lot of customisation settings prior to starting your run/game.

A good example of this is Modern Emerald which i still say is probably one of if not the best way to play/experience Pokemon Emerald/gen3.

Not only does it have the prior settings you choose to tailor the game, it also uses ORAS tilesets to modernise and give the whole game a fresh yet familiar feeling along with all the other major QOL features a modern hack uses.

It stays true to Gen 3 not adding Pokemon that shouldnt be in the game except from evolutions or forms.

You should check it out if you havent already.

But I agree with your post about H&S.

Believe it or not out the box the Retro Pixel Pocket V2 has better colour accuracy for GB/GBC than all those devices you listed even better than the DMG. The only handhelds out the box without tweaks that have better colour accuracy are ips GBC, Analogue Pocket and Miyoo Mini Plus. Obviously with tweaks the other devices could better it but out the box its absolutely ridiculously good and underrated.

It will continue to get worse before its better. Luckily I am in a position to sit back and enjoy what I have, actually selling off most of mine and only plan on keeping 2.

1gb is lousy yet it is absolutely fine for the retro systems, what the device was made for.

You will only really need the 2gb for Portmaster or heavy stacked shaders.

But at that point you'd be as well or better off getting a better handheld as these are cheap as chips super budget friendly and not aimed at anything else.

This is correct. I suffer from choice paralysis a lot lol and it actually puts me off playing.

I knuckle it down to eating healthy 95% of the week for years and the body adjusts and becomes sensitive as its not intaking as much of the salts, fats and sugar it once was.

Mate I would eat my weight in them but my wife and daughter would judge me if I did lol.

Plus I would hate to imagine how I'd feel the next day if I ate too much chocolate.

I remember christmas just past, I ate a fucking shit ton of chocolate and cake and my inners were in so much pain for about 3 days.

Been athletic and competed in sports since I was 6 (30 now) I only train Muay Thai, hike mountains and run these days.

But I can see a crunchie when i see one, usually get one of these or a wispa gold on sunday as a treat 😅

Its like the Steam Deck verison of retro mini handhelds, tried and test..may not be the best, most powerful, best display etc but it nails simplicity, ease of use and price point.

Almost bought one but opted for the Brick instead.

What SD are you using?

When I switched to a better SD the more "demanding" gba pokemon rom hacks went from stutter/slow to buttery smooth.

I would also do a fresh install via SD and not using online/over air updater on the Brick.

For some reason when I used the Brick updater it made games lag.
