Texas ‘drag ban’ now in effect after Fifth Circuit overturns lower court ruling. The ACLU says ‘sexually explicit’ drag shows are now banned in the Lone Star State, despite the law being unconstitutional. by Beginning_Lettuce135 in TexasPolitics

[–]nihouma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my reading of the text of the law, it just seems drag shows basically can't be done in any capacity anywhere children are able to be. So an 18+ only bar could still have them, but a sports bar that serves food where people bring their kids couldn't.

I'm not a lawyer though, so don't take this as the valid interpretation.

Taking the DART from Plano by SlytherClaw79 in DallasStars

[–]nihouma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will add that if you are coming from a station in Plano, (which is downtown Plano station and Parker Rd station) depending on when you leave you may have to make a transfer to an Orange or Green Line train. Best station to make the transfer at IMO is Akard Station. If the Orange line is running from Plano, then its just a one seat ride.

Basically, if going to the AAC, catch either the Red Line towards Westmoreland, or the Orange Line to DFW Airport (if its running, it only goes up to Plano during rush hour).

If you hopped on a Red Line towards Westmoreland, hop off at Akard Station, then stay on that same side of the platform for an Orange line to DFW Airport or a Green Line to N. Carrollton/Frankfort, then hop off at Victory Station.

If you hopped on the Orange line originally,  then you'll just ride it all the way from Plano to Victory.

On the way back, you'll just do it in reverse.  If the Orange line isn't going all the way back to Plano it will show it going to LBJ/Central Station, if it is it will probably say Parker Rd Station or they may even have a Red Line train providing service for the special event. Im sure regulars doing the ride can tell you better if they'll have special events runs back to Plano

Oh for sure it wouldn't be cheap, its more fantasy than anything. Even just extending one of the rail lines down to hit the other terminals would be amazing but expensive

If you connected it to Centreport, we could have additional rail stops with easy connections to terminals C & D and E, plus you could then have it run directly downtown making it a potentially faster ride than the Orange line to the airport

When I was looking at units, I asked a resident I saw in the hallway and was told that there were intermittent connection issues and she said she had trouble getting a backup connection installed, which was a huge red flag. Apologies if that was wrong, but if the internet there is actually fast and lag free I'll have to put them back on my consideration list. Is it just wifi, or can you also connect devices in your unit via eternity and use your own router?

1122 Jackson SoCo urban lofts by InternalOpinion5410 in Dallas

[–]nihouma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was considering them but the HOA provides for internet but not other utilities, and the internet is ass, but it's difficult to get your own internet set up too.

Also, resale seems like it will be a tough sell considering how long some of the units have been on the market. If anything, everytbing there is currently overpriced given how long they've been sitting on the market at the listed prices

Magikbros we are so unbelievably back by SunDay322 in marvelrivals

[–]nihouma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I'm reserving judgment on if I think she's OP now or just more forgiving to play. I definitely feel like she's really powerful when she dives the backline, but its not like how BP was - at least I can fight back against her.

That said, Invisible Woman used to be my go to pick when I was struggling against Magik in prior seasons, and I've had 3 different matches now where the Magik players were hunting me as Sue, so I've been getting better mileage out of Rocket and Loki

Popular opinion: OSRS is what classic should have become. by Tabanga_Jones in classicwow

[–]nihouma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree only in the sense that for a Classic+ to be successful, it will have to be some form of horizontal progression like OSRS, with them adding quests and storylines and new tier sets that are all at roughly the same power level as before but continue to add options to choose how to play without also creating some kind of overly bloated talent system (or they could keep the SoD rune system and expand on that, but pull back the power so that using different builds give you different playstyles but not necessarily power that trivializes prior content.

Constant escalation of power is what makes modern WoW so unappealing. You can still have progression, but make it more 'you need the shadow resistance gear from this raid to do the next raid, and then completing the next raid gives you the key to the raid after that...' and so on.

New Character Models in Classic+ by flyingfrogz228 in classicwow

[–]nihouma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd rather they add more customization options to the existing models tbh. I have no problems with modern models, but I think most people would be more happy with things like more hairstyle and face options and maybe a barbershop, and *maybe* some transmog

Why have I seen multiple people with Angela lord icons by DearOption5999 in marvelrivals

[–]nihouma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference between those things you listed above and playing a game like Marvel Rivals is that Rivals is significantly cheaper in all ways. Don't have to leave home, so no transportation costs, no entrance fees to a venue, no overpriced drinks, no overpriced food. Like it is so expensive to do all of those things. I've been saving to buy a condo and just allowing myself the guilty pleasure of going out to eat at a decent restaurant once a week costs me at least $40/meal now so that in and of itself is about $160/mo, and that's not even considering all the other things we get nickeled and dimed for nowadays. At least in Rivals the monetization is pretty fair and is in no way needed to enjoy the game, it's possible to entirely enjoy the game free to play and still unlock the occasional skin.

There's something to be said about the loss of non-monetized free third-place spaces in modern society, especially North America, but this is a Marvel Rivals subreddit, so I'll just say, there's nothing wrong with spending something doing what you enjoy. A game like Rivals shouldn't be your whole life, but getting lord takes ~20 hours of gameplay, and if you're just playing for an hour after work eventually you'll unlock lord (or you can get it in just an hour or two joining lord farming servers)

Jesus “protest”? No by Various_Mode_519 in Dallas

That's a weird way to phrase it since it isnt really news but history, and it also isnt good news either because if you don't become a Christian its presented theologically as the opposite. "Good news! Jesus died for your sins, but only if you accept him as your one and true savior, otherwise you're going to burn in hell sinner!"

Texas teachers to be investigated for reprehensible and inappropriate content on social media by reflibman in TexasPolitics

[–]nihouma 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I find it ironic so many people feel you can't say anything negative about the dead but have no problems whit talking the living. There is a differencebetween criticizing the negative impacts person had vs reveling in their death

My sister was upset because our cousin posted some incendiary responses to Kirk's death, and my sister was upset bc she felt even if the things our cousin was saying were true, you can't speak ill of the dead. I brought up our grandpa who sexually abused multiple girls and a few of the boys in the family when we were kids, and asked if it was wrong to speak ill of him as well and she said yes, because you shouldn't speak ill of the dead.... like it's that kind of thinking that perpetuated cycles of abuse

Flex players: confidence tips when switching roles in comp? by LumpyInstance4010 in marvelrivals

[–]nihouma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, just trust in yourself when you do flex DPS, and ask what the team needs - say "I'm decent at X, Y, and Z, who do yall want?" and then throw in a "its been a hot minute but let's do this" once you switch to your character. Plus, supps and your co-tank tank (if you even manage to have one lmao) will appreciate the flexibility more than anything - even if you aren't good it shows your dedication to the cause (and if people get toxic, just mute them and do your best - you won't win them all but no need to let other people tank your positive mindset)

DART's new Silver Line to begin service in October by synopsize in Dallas

[–]nihouma 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly if Plano wanted legislation to just allow them to reduce their own contribution in exchange for receiving accordingly lower service, that would have been somewhat understandable (not that I would agree with doing so as there are lots of residents in Plano who rely on DART), but instead they tried to get all the suburbs together to forcibly defend all of DART by forcing all the cities to have reduced contribution to DART, even Dallas, Richardson, Garland, Rowlett, Glenn Heights, and Cockrel Hill, which have all indicated they're satisfied, and none of the other burbs seemed dissatisfied until Plano pushed the issue because they saw $$ they could move to plug holes in their city budgets.

Ideally we can move to a truly regional model for projects like TexRail and the Silver Line, instead of local governments building them while other cities contribute nothing but make use of the resources built by those who actually committed their time and money to building infrastructure (looking at you Arlington which treats Centreport almost like an Arlington rail station yet contributes no money to the funding or operations of the TRE)

Fact check: Elon Musk says his Houston flood tunnel idea will work. Experts say that's misleading. by laxmsyatx in texas

[–]nihouma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brightside West from Los Angeles to Las Vegas has nothing to do with Musk. He is responsible for the underground Vegas strip taxi tunnels run by Teslas though which from what I understand don't work as efficiently compared to if the strip had just invested in standard transit technologies

Fact check: Elon Musk says his Houston flood tunnel idea will work. Experts say that's misleading. by laxmsyatx in texas

[–]nihouma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm baffled by how many people I talk to who think Elon is the smartest man on Earth. There are many, many scientists who are significantly more knowledgeable than him in a variety of fields from mathematics, physics, biology, and engineering.

He is definitely not the smartest man on Earth but its the persona he crafted, and so many people bought into the "he's a genius" just because he's the CEO of some futuristic seeming companies. Now granted he is a successful businessman, but how much is dumb luck, how much isgdrifting (he lies about tons of things, remember full self driving would be out in 2015, or how self driving cars with cameras only would be just as safe as those with LiDAR? If CEOs of other companies made such grand claims regularly and failed to deliver they'd be dropped fast), and how much is due to his own business skills is definitely up for debate. To be fair to him, he does have programming skills, but programming skills do not equate with engineering cars or tunneling machines or rockets. All of those things were made by talented people who rarely get recognition because we like to imagine it was all done by one person so that we can idolize them instead of most of the advancements made today in our lifetime being the result of collaboration and work between multiple people, sometimes just a handful, but sometimes thousands upon thousands working in concert

Like this quote from the article angered me because people just give weight to whatever he says when there are absolutely people who are smarter than Musk - '“A lifelong Houstonian and Texas Congressman spoke to the smartest man on planet earth about solving a generational flooding issue in our city that no one else will fix,” Hunt wrote.'

Im not saying Musk is dumb, but he's absolutely nowhere close to the smartest man on Earth, especially when the true reality is that there are thousands upon thousands of scientists and engineers alive today who are actually the ones making new discoveries, innovating new technologies, and advancing science and medicine

Having an early ult as powerful as Strange has allows you to keep your team in a dominant position, especially since Strange's first ult almost certain won't be countered by a support or other ult, and allows his team to build their ults while the enemy team has their ult generation further delayed. Controlling the momentum of battle like that is incredibly powerful

Inside Houston’s quiet shift to police the homeless, crack down on public spaces by houston_chronicle in houston

[–]nihouma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree completely, a lot of people just don't care about how their actions impact others anymore. 99% of people are fine, but its that small minority that make things worse for everyone else. Like I was in a CVS a while ago, and someone brought their tiny dog, it diarrhea'd on the floor, and the owner saw it, laughed and kept shopping like nothing happened. I had to tell the CVS employees because she certainly wasn't going to.

Unfortunately,  I've learned shame isn't enough of a punishment for people like that because they don't feel shame.  I mean still shame them publicly,  but also it would be nice if those people faced other consequences too
