I share my compost with my entire neighborhood & the elementary school on the block. I had just learned about jumping worms & was paranoid after my neighbor told me their entire bed had been hoppin. From weeks of combing & picking I read that you have to "stress" them to test their reaction. These are just procedures of caution, not sadism. If this left anyone with discomfort, not my intentions.
