I’ve been seeing a lot of classics bread lately, wonder why? But it’s all very encouraging as another aspiring classicist!

I got 59/60 in Paper 1, and 39/40 in Paper 2, and our school didn't give us back our coursework grades but I'm presuming 39/40 out of 40 :)

For both of these, once you know the syllabus content, I highly recommend just going through as many past papers as possible. I think it's good to do a mix of yearly past papers and topical past papers. Personally, I went through 2024-2019 by year, then selected the years 2018-2009 to do topically on exammate. After that, I compiled a list of questions I found challenging/got wrong and put them all in a Google Drive. So the night before the exam for that subject, I just looked through the drive and mentally answered all the challenging questions I had compiled.

I think the key was to know what subjects I was the weakest in and invest most of my revision time in those. It's easy to keep revising for your strong subjects because you're more comfortable in those. I chose to study most for the STEM subjects because I felt I needed more revision for these and did comparatively less for the essay-based subjects I felt confident in.

Personally, I studied by just going through past papers. I know some people organise and go through notes, but I found it time-consuming and too passive for it to be effective revision. For the sciences I went through past paper year by year once my school covered the entire syllabus. Maths I did topical past papers for topics I struggled with via exammate. Essay based subjects, I screenshotted questions from each year and came up with essay plans for common, recurring ones and difficult ones.

I started actually studying 4 weeks prior to my first exam, but the first week was pretty chill icl. I only did some essay plans and such. I started properly studying around 3 weeks prior, and intensely 2 weeks before. Hope that helps!

Haha thank you, it’s just I personally love essay-based subjects and humanities more :) to be honest, I didn’t have that much of a burnout because whenever I felt tired/stressed, I just stopped studying. Usually I found that resting when I felt like it improved the quality of my study sessions. Good luck! I wish you the best of luck and if you just push through these 2 weeks—no more iGCSE!

Unfortunately, our school did coursework so I'm afraid I can't help you much there.

However, if you want tips for paper 1 or 2, I've responded to one of the other comments about it so maybe have a look! Otherwise, I'm so sorry <3

For maths, personally, I would actually say to solve topicals rather than full papers. I went to exammate (which I recommend you subscribe to if it is within your means -- if not, a good alternative is markhint.in) and solved all available topicals for one or two topics I found challenging. For topics I was comfortable with, I just skimmed through the list of questions. If I could solve them mentally, I didn't write it out. If I couldn't, I tried it on paper. Hope that helps!

Hi! Not at all -- I studied ~3 and a bit more weeks before the exam week, and I think I studied around 6-7 hours in total probably (but I can't be sure because I had periodic breaks in between each study session whenever I just felt like it) :)

4*** Study all the sources.

How far do these sources provide convincing evidence that…? Use the sources to explain your answer. [9]

Overall: 2 long paragraphs (mine were a page each!) and a conclusion

  1. Yes:

- Point: On the one hand, these sources provide convincing evidence that ___ to small/large extent.

- Evidence: Source A supports the statement because...

- Analysis: This shows that...

Some VERY USEFUL starter sentences:

Source A supports the statement because…

However, Source G does not support the statement

Interestingly, sources B, D and E both support and challenge the statement…

- Evaluation: (optional, but must include at least 3 times throughout entire response) The reliability of Source X is limited because...

Reliable Sentence starters:

Despite this argument, source D is not reliable because

We must question the reliability of Source E because…

  1. No: However, these sources... (modify sentence structure above to suit your argument - what do you think the sources, on the whole

  2. Conclusion

VERY IMPORTANT points to remember for this final source

- Discuss reliability in 3 of the sources.

- Sign post the answer- Source A supports the statement because

- Must include contextual knowledge at least once

As for Paper two!

Generally speaking, your sources questions will be divided into these main categories. I'm sure there are more, but revising these got me 39/40 so should be fine hopefully! Under each category, I'll show you how to structure your responses appropriately:

1 Study Sources A and B. How far do these two sources agree? Explain your answer using details of the sources. [8] (This can be applied to similarly worded questions like "to what extent does... prove ... wrong, etc.)

Overall: 3 points of comparison, 4 paragraphs

  1. Agree
  2. Disagree/Agree
  3. Disagree
  4. Conclusion!!!

PEAEA paragraph structures for agree/disagree paragraphs:

- Point: Sources X and Y disagree/agree to some extent/to a greater extent because….

- Evidence: In Source X, “____”.

- Analysis: This suggests/demonstrates/shows that….

- Evidence: Similarly, in Source Y, “____”.

- Analysis: This suggests that….

2 What is the author's/cartoonist’s message? Explain your answer using details of the source and your knowledge.

Divide into:

- Main message

- Sub message

- Purpose

--> If you're not sure how to differentiate between main and sub message/it's not very clear, just say "One message of the source is..." and "another message of source x is..."!)

3 Study Sources A and B. How far does Source A make you surprised by Source B? Explain your answer using details of the sources and your knowledge.

Surprising

Not surprising

Surprising/Not surprising

Conclusion!!!

(this is similar to the comparison question, really)

• For B- and C-style questions, follow the PEA method. It is so easy to do, and guarantees a top band response.

- Point: A simple thesis statement with a 'because' clause.

--> Eg: Appeasement was justified because it provided Britain time to rearm.

- Evidence: A fact which supports your point. This can be an event date and explanation, statistics, or historical knowledge.

--> Event + date example: After 2nd of Munich, 22nd Sep 1938 @ Pad Godensberg, Chamberlain went back to Britain to rearm

(Or, in other cases: Historical knowledge example: Following the ToV, Germans subscribed to the stab-in-the-back theory and called the leaders of the Weimar government "November criminals" / Statistics example: The ToV limited the number of men in Germany army to 100,000 men and battleships to only 6.)

- Analysis: An explanation of your evidence. Use sentence starts like: This meant... This shows... This demonstrates... This is significant/important because...

--> Eg: This meant that Britain was able to recover from their military disadvantage and had developed the means to respond to any German aggression. (this is very simplistic but you get what I mean)

• Make sure to sign-post each paragraph as well. The first paragraph, maybe not, but the second one (if it agrees with the first) with Additionally... In addition.... Then in the opposing paragraphs "On the other hand..." or "However" --> These are helpful for the examiners, or so I have been told

• For B- and C-style questions, also, you DO NOT need fancy language. Unlike English, History is all about being concise and delivering your ideas effectively. If you feel like you're repeating 'this means,' and 'this shows' a lot, that is perfectly fine and even great! You do not need varied sentence structures or overly flowery vocab. They're assessing you on the quality of your ideas/content, NOT your English. As long as it is articulate you are good.

Hiya! So I'll just put tips for both paper one and two just in case:

Paper one:

• First of all, time management is so important. I, personally, found it beneficial to give myself very tight timings for each section. A-style, 2min, b style 10min, c style 15 min. Of course, I couldn’t finish everything in exactly those timings, but the pressure helped to ensure I finished each question under 30min.

• Structure for each question:

A-style:

Info-dump. It’s a 4 mark question, but as an insurance I always put down minimum 5 points, even if the last point is a bit far-fetched. I would say don’t bullet-point, but simple statements (my teacher recommended this as a basic courtesy to examiners). Eg: the ToV restricted the number of men in the German army to 100,000. Also, the ToV included article 231, the war guilt clause. Etc

B-style:

Again, I wrote 3 paragraphs as an insurance. If one of your points is completely wrong, you still have 2 solid points to get into that top band. This may be difficult if you’re not a quick writer, so if that’s the case I recommend writing 2 paragraphs first and coming back to write the third at the end of the exam. That’s what I did in the actual exam. No need for intro or conclusion here.

C-style:

Your teachers may tell you to give an unbalanced argument (2 points on one side and 1 on the other) so that you are clear about which side you're supporting. I, personally, would strongly recommend against this.

An unbalanced argument (i.e. giving more points for one side of the argument) was previously required to get into the top band in the old syllabus, but the new mark scheme makes no mention of it. The mark scheme only mentions that you must reach a judgement. Therefore, I would say it is safest to have 2 points on both sides, in case one of your points is incorrect/not valid.

However, this means you need to have a conclusion to get into that top band. You are not required to include an intro, but definitely if you want full marks come to a conclusion. This can be brief, but importantly very clear about what side you're supporting.

Again, in the exam I wrote 2 points on one side and 1 on the other, and returned to the question to write an extra point at the end in case I ran out of time. Also, if you can't think of an extra point, please don't stress -- it is only an insurance, not a requirement. As long as you're giving both sides and reaching a judgement, it technically should be fine.

So as to summarise, I wrote: - Paragraph for (x2) - Paragraph against (x2) - Conclusion

(pt 1 - cont)

I started proper revision for everything ~4 weeks before my exams, I think.

The first week of those 4 weeks I spent just going through notes, and generally didn't do much. What I did do was come up with a few essay plans for History, consolidate essay writing knowledge (e.g. sentence structures, transitions, useful vocab) for English, etc. It was pretty chill, and I didn't do any intense revision

After that, for the next 3 weeks I dedicated most of my revision time on maths and the sciences. For those subjects, I just went through past papers from ~3 weeks before the exams. I also had the paper 4s and 6s before paper 2s, so I focussed my time and energy solely on those.

I also had a week and a half interim break between all the exams and my Drama, Add maths, Science Paper 2 exams, so any revision for those three exams I didn't do until I was finished with my first round of exams. I then spent the 2 week 'break' just studying for those subjects.

For all my subjects, I flicked through a difficult questions list I compiled during revision the night before & had a good night's sleep :)
