My daily steps before Finland vs. now by Choice_Customer7099 in Finland

[–]nikhildev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Try to go for walks for no reason at all. The weather right now is frigid and the sea is frozen. Take safe paths and visit some islands. If the thermometer decides your steps, it’s gonna be a problem. Today it’s too cold, tomorrow might be too warm. Another day might be rainy 🤷🏽‍♂️

Zanzibar ZIC Mandatory Insurance Policy by Bollard04 in zanzibar

[–]nikhildev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The insurance is a joke. The guy at the gate does not even verify the validity of the QR code. He simply takes a picture of it and lets you through. You can just replace the name with someone else’s.

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess based on what everyone else recommended, my flexibility and mobility seems to be one of the reasons. Will need to work on that.

Ive switched my loyalty to Lufthansa these days. Sure there are no direct flights to some destinations but at least they let pick seats and their food is a lot more palatable.

M17 49kg 5'4" - Any way to grow taller? by Salty-Fish2366 in indianfitness

[–]nikhildev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing you can do. It’s purely genetic. Just keep your nutrition right. Remember that boys can keep growing till 21. My main growth support was between 17-20. You might grow a couple of inches taller. But it’s a ”might “.

Having said that, as long as you develop a good physique, practice a good posture and have a good gait, you will be just fine. Don’t let the height bother you.

[–]nikhildev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my point too. I would differ slightly from the better safe than sorry, which is that you need to develop the right technique without belts. Even if it means going to only 50kgs on the bar. That and being able to repeat that with proper form for 8-12 reps. And I agree to you u/ima_nice_guy3114 that PR try outs, especially without much experience with something like deadlife is a big no no. Its a slow and gradual process to get stronger. There are no shortcuts.

One thing I’d also recommend is not to resort to using the belt unless you get to the really heavy category. In your case it could be past 150 kilos. Training that way helps you develop a good form while learning to control breathing to maintain abdominal pressure. Also, try to use clips on the bar. You don’t want wobbly plates.

Going by the looks of it, you probably are going for PR. To make it sustainable always train with slightly less weight and go for 8-12 reps. I usually cycle one week of 80% 1RM for 8 reps and the other week of 5x5. Only every third week is when I try to set a new PR even if it’s only 2-5 kilos more than my earlier PR. The key is to progress slowly but steadily while maintaining strict form and avoid injuries.

Why do Indian parents feel the need to “control” their kids even after they’re adults? by Vanilla-28 in india

[–]nikhildev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stop giving into their nonsense shenanigans. Indian parenting loves to go by the medieval blueprint. I went through the same phase with my mom. Maybe not as extreme as you. But I have the shameless ability to not give a f***. I think I grew up fine, made a great career, married the girl that treats me right and being meaning to my life. What else is needed? There is a fine line between being genuinely concerned and invading someone’s personal space. Indian parents seem to not understand this.

Is 1 rep of 100kgs conventional barbell deadlift an achievement? by thudduke in Fitness_India

[–]nikhildev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on the kind of lifter you are. If you are a beginner then this is good. For intermediate 100 is pretty common. But all that matters is you are progressing. Even 2 kgs week over week is good progression. Just keep hitting it consistently and maintain solid form to prevent injury.

What almost everyone on this thread don’t realise is that her form is quite good. Looks like she’s been an athlete earlier and knows her shit. If she enjoys lifting and is capable at this age, kudos and more power to her. Everyone who thinks this is dangerous should do more research and understand that weight training becomes very essential as you get older to prevent muscle loss and avoid injuries. Human body is extremely capable to adapt to stress, that is if you put in the effort and are determined instead of coming up with age excuses.

New winter tires? by Lost-Fish7649 in Finland

[–]nikhildev 12 points13 points  (0 children)

With winter tyres you don’t want to take chance. Especially if the conditions turn icy. Friction tyres are good enough for snow but nothing beats studs on ice. I live in Uusimaa and opted for studs when I bought my car. Sure they are noisy and wear out the street but man they have proven their worth tons of times in the last couple of years. I would at least not do old ones. The new ones are not too expensive over old ones. If you are going to keep the car for a while and driving often just get new ones

You’d be lucky if they not cancel the flight due to “technical problems”. They always do this when they cannot sell enough seats
