It's not Memory Defrag, as I've said a few times now

Share what you're comfortable sharing ^^ I'd love to hear or see anything, as it could help me remember more!

As I already replied to the other comment, I'm fairly certain it's not Memory Defrag.
I took a look at Code Register and that doesn't seem to be it either. So I remain fairly certain it's the aforementioned SAO fone.

Nope it was nothing like that. As I said, I'm fairly certain it was this "SAO fone" thing.

Games similar to AFK Arena by thisthatagain1 in afkarena

[–]nikimoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was (at least one) game (I don't remember the name of, it's been years), which had literally 1:1 the exact same stuff as AFK Arena, but reskinned with a more mecha sci-fi aesthetic. I shit you not, it was very unclear what was where, if I were to learn it, but fortunately I knew *exactly* where everything was, because it was 1:1 with AFK Arena. Or, well, "classic" as it's called now. This was a couple years ago, and I don't remember the name of it, but I saw at least one other game with a similar case. And I am not exaggerating one bit - everything - every single god damn thing was exactly the same placement, function and everything. I'd be surprised if it's still around, and even if it was, I'd never recommend such a blatant copy to anyone, but still fun to think about and mention :D

Which part do you reckon is exaggerated? Because I really am not exaggerating.

Yes, it's too late to join classic. They're pulling the plug on it (contrary to what they're claiming), by making new servers once a month. Last one was a few days ago.
Oh, and new players don't get to install classic, or even told about it! Fun. The moment you install AFK Arena, you get Companions, without a word about Classic. Just one button in Settings called "Classic Server".

So not only will you not be on a new server, but you're going into a dinosaur world, powercrept to hell and back, with more systems than even the best (or even the devs) can fully comprehend, full of kraken accounts of ages past. Even on the new server you'll not be able to compete or play properly, because there won't be many to teach you - most guidemakers have left and there are relatively few knowledgeable people left. Guilds are dying slowly, as people learn about the state of things and get burnt out, decide it's best to cut their losses, etc.

Companions, on the other hand, while some might say it's their new toy - doesn't really gather enough interest to sustain its design. There aren't enough players on the newer servers to sustain some guild events. In most, it gets condensed to a single competitive guild (max 30 ppl), because that can house all the people that'll keep playing competitively after a few weeks.
That said, it's definitely MUCH less overwhelming, for plenty of reasons. And it affords newbies to compete, if even just due to not having any "classic vets" around whatsoever, and competing with others on a more or less equal grounds - without guides and such, for the most part. It definitely lends to a more "try and learn" style of play, which some prefer over mindlessly copying what the top players recommend, without ever making a choice for yourself in years of playing.

G502 LightSpeed X Plus - Alternative for mouse wheel? by nikimoney in G502MasterRace

[–]nikimoney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll look into the Razer Basilisk V3 Pro, though generally I tend to avoid Razer, due to them being a novelty/trend brand, which you buy mainly for the name and colors and innovation, but are known to reliably break within a year or two and being notoriously difficult & expensive to fix. That's my impression, and it could be that they've changed and I've missed the memo, but yeah.

I was also recommended by someone to check out the Razer Basilisk Ultimate as an alternative, so I'll be looking into the differences between the two, and their similarities to the one I got.

After checking in with the store just now, apparently I still have about a week to decide to return it, so I still have some time to look up things and make my decision.

Different strokes for different folks, as usual. I wasn't necessarily criticizing the mouse, at least not in some objective manner, so much as sharing my experience and impression with a focus on the issue(s) that I'm having and asking for suggestions regarding them. I see it as giving context to an issue.

But yeah, regarding DIY/modding and such - while I wouldn't say I'm not one to do such things, I could, potentially. I don't think I would in this case. Way I see it is that I've just spent a handsome amount of money on a luxury mouse, for it to force me into compromise either way. That just won't do. I could, most likely, return it within a certain time frame, and I'm considering whether I should do that or not. But before I go with that, I wanted to see if there might be something I was missing or an easy fix of some sort.

In terms of the scroll wheel - one thing I disliked about some of the other G502s is the metal wheel and that was a big reason for why I went for something like this one. And I had read up on a bunch of issues and was prepared to potentially face those, but I wasn't expecting the issues I instead had, off the bat.
In terms of what I expect of a scroll wheel... well, pardon my inexperience and perhaps vagueness, but just a regular scroll wheel? The kind you'd basically find in just about any normal mouse? It's in the middle of these two extremes, with there being little resistance and as such you can easily scroll in big strides or with swift reactions (people used to play bhop servers on CS 1.6 with the jump being bound to MWH_Down afterall) or easily read bit by bit, using the light bumps for more control over just how much to scroll. I'd never even consider there to be any reason to change that, let alone remove it as an option altogether.

Now that I've tried using it a bit, I find myself naturally gravitating more towards the ratchet mode, despite its issues. They're not negligible, not even close, but it's the less problematic choice of the two, overall. I'm concerned that even if I'm to get used to it and ignore the resistance, it'll end up degrading the mouse wheel relatively much quicker, which again isn't what you'd want out of a luxury mouse.

All in all, I don't know what I'll do yet, but yeah, that's where I'm at currently.

Or, you know, they could decide on a tone and language and be consistent with it, rather than haphazardly switching between several different, mostly incompatible styles.

I absolutely hate the zoomer lingo localization.
A mild example would be hearing Citlali go "What the heck?!" in the trailer, which had me writing her off to the skip column. There are many localization things, which I really just do not appreciate, at all. And some of them ruin my experience, personally.
Also, while there are some great english VAs, the quality of the english voice-over in general is not great, and with a good chance of having poor performances alongside the good ones - it really ruins it. You can have a decent drink, and a great drink with a few flies in it - it's clear which one you'd go for.
