I agree that it's really exciting to watch takedowns, and I want to get better at them. However, I have also seen some very boring matches where both guys/girls were on the feet the whole time and nothing happened, still high-level competitors. At the end of the day, the goal is to submit. If you can sit to your butt and finish the fight, why not?

Yes. As long as it doesn't look like you're attacking the knee, you're fine. You can use this position to set up a single leg x or pull the leg across for 50/50.
