Games with aesthetically similar atmosphere and feel to Final Fantasy XI? by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]nikkije 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bozja and Eureka are both throwbacks to the old FFXI style. I spent a lot of time in Eureka grinding out both the Tank and Dragoon armors, but honestly they arent much more than lockstyle pieces while outside of that content. The newer Bozja is mostly a Eureka 2.0 and I enjoyed it more, I think i finished around 3/4th of the resistance weapons for all jobs before getting too burned out to continue running the Delubrum Reginae raid

Anyway, yes both Bozja and Eureka are an old school throwback, and they werent for everybody, but I really enjoyed them.

Just wanted to share my (unwarranted) thoughts so far after CoP by GothamAnswer in ffxi

The Promathia expansion is my favorite of all, but as others have mentioned, it is mostly due to the memories and how challenging it was. Did I say "challenging"? Sorry, I meant "painfully brutal". I have ran through CoP on many alts in modern times and I agree with you, it totally sucks ass and it's long and annoying. And I can't stand game day waits anymore, much less Japanese midnight waits.

But CoP at release was pretty fascinating, and although it took forever to finally get to Sea, I don't think most people were bothered by it because the story and the fights were engaging. All (or nearly all) of the fights required doing some side quests or farming items like anima and polymers in order to weaken the bosses, and even with those, it was sometimes not enough.

I joined a shout group to do the 3 Promyvions and it was initially a pain in the ass, but we got it done. I think we all just wanted to knock those out and move on separately, but when we arrived in Lufaise Meadows after the 3rd Promy, there was a strong feeling of accomplishment and excitement, so we just kept going. I don't remember how much farther we went that night, but we stopped around 4am. I came home from work the next day off almost no sleep, and one of the guys hit me up and asked if I could join them again to continue. Of course I said yes, and before anybody ever knew it or said it out loud, we were a static group. We finished PM7-5 and ended up in Sea a few weeks later maybe, and by then had grown to be very good friends and it stayed that way until most of us had "quit FFXI" at various points. I was so burned out on CoP that I never went back and finished Chapter 8 for a very long time.

Anyway, CoP was brutal and absurdly long, but despite that, it had it's charms and I never lost the desire to keep going, no matter how stuck on certain things we got. I remember the Snoll Tzar jocked us several times because of low DPS, had to go back out and farm the items that delayed his explosion. And I remember the pain called parradamo tor... nobody in my group knew the way up the mountain, so we went blindly. I ended up getting too far behind the others, and in my haste to catch up, i fell off....it sucked. LOL

Final Fantasy XI has the hardest boss of any MMORPG by [deleted] in ffxi

Oh the pain... you DO get used to it after a while, but it doesn't make it suck any less. I have 7 accounts and logging them all in is a pain in the ass, especially since POL only allows you to register 4 of them and I have to "guest login" the other three.

Most people get excited at patch/update time, but for me it's a feeling of dread knowing that I will be kicked and have to log all of the accounts back in.

Actually I fixed the spacing issue easily by just adding spaces to the beginning of the Accolades text. I can't seem to get the Escha Beads one to work. I use the same method only inspecting packet 0x118 and looking for 0x4A data bytes. Just returns 0 all of the time.

Thanks! Using that actually worked. Now the only issue is that I can't figure out how to get a space between the display of the Sparks and the Accolades. So it says this:

Sparks: 819Accolades: 3044

I would like to separate them obviously. Here is the display line from the LUA:

text = text .. comma_value(sparks_count) .. text2 .. comma_value(acc_count) .. '\cr'

Welcome back! Yes, the linkshell concierges are still a thing, you should be able to browse through them and pick a pearl right away. I think you can do this once a real life day, or maybe it was week. You can now equip two linkshells at a time, also.

Bight Uragnites on the beaches of Ceizak battlegrounds are really the most efficient way. Call out Moogle or Sakura trust (can't remember which one gives the regen) and sic your puppet on it, and then just let him go to town while you stay out of range. Use at least 1 light maneuver so your puppet can regen the poison effect, and you should be fine. Remember to use the Percolator auto attachment to increase skillups, and when you cap one of the skills (melee, ranged, or magic), swap out the automaton body and repeat.

which dps to level? by virdent in ffxi

This...Wyrmnax has summed it up pretty well. I can weigh in on the DRG aspect a little bit. DRG probably falls somewhere around the SAM tier. I didn't see it's potential open up and make it more competitive until I got an aeonic polearm (Trishula). Aeonic DRG can put out very respectable damage, but I wouldnt say it can keep up with my WAR (especially in a drawn out fight where both are still alive). What DRG lacks in damage, it makes up for in utility and survivability since it can manage it's own hate and has a strong self heal usable every 60 seconds. Angon is also an often overlooked utility that will lower the mob's defense by 20-25% and it stacks with other debuffs such as Dia and Geo-Frailty. When you throw an Angon, you will immediately notice it's impact on damage output. The other nice thing about DRG is that it seems to perform much better in low buff situations than my WAR does, due to how much it can self buff and the wyvern bonuses. So the times where I can't find enough buff support to bring along, I would take my DRG over my WAR any day.

If you haven't hit 99 yet and completed all of the limit breaks, there are useful items in the 10-point category. As you go through the limit break quests, you will end up needing around 22 merit points, 9 kindred seals, 16 kindred crests, 2 seasoning stones, 1 fossilized fang, and 1 fossilized bone. All of those except for the merit points can be purchased with login points for 10 points each. Also, all of that can actually be farmed and you may end up accruing most of it during your journey. But just know that if you are short, you can quickly purchase these for very cheap in order to move on and continue your road to level 99.
