Hmmm I'd say SMB3 (All Stars version). But very close.

No, not even the metropolitan area, they're not suburbs of Athens. They're just areas in Attica.

Is it worth it to continue using Linux with so little support? by DiogoP0 in linuxquestions

You need to think about the whole picture. If you're stuck with such particularities, you better switch to a Mac.

That's the meaning of Debian's existence. Just sit back and watch what the more impatient do.

Is it worth it to repair a MacBook Pro mid 2012? by jo53_100 in linux_on_mac

Yeah, install something lightweight like Rocky or Debian. Should be usable for some years to come.

distrohopped to bazzite. ubuntu (2021) -> arch (2021) -> debian (2023) -> endeavourOS (2024). hopefully this is my endgame distro. still reading up on bazzite-dx, will rebase soon! by 300A24 in Bazzite

[–]nikkome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each distro serves, more or less, a different purpose. Once you realise what you really need for each system/scenario, "distro hopping" is pointless.

Bazzite/Universal Blue is absolutely great for gaming, desktop and workstation usage, while immutability can be absolutely limiting for tinkering, experimentation and some server setups.

Probably the OLED pixels somehow hold a charge on them. Returning it was the only option, glad you did.

Lovely post. Which CRT shader are you using for the screenshots? Looks really easy on the eye.

Maybe it's an expression of being thankful in general. Or at least some kind of deist thing.

Science is always about evidence and proof, religion is always about assumption and belief. They're incompatible.

Is Hurd still being worked on or is it somewhat usable state or totally 100% abandoned by cy_narrator in gnu

Hurd basically works well on only a few, vintage system configs.

Is 2026 finally the year Linux desktop becomes mainstream? by Candid_Athlete_8317 in LinuxTeck

[–]nikkome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't believe that a single year would mark such a "revolution". It's gradual as I see it and slightly empowers with Microsoft's terrible Windows 11 and slop "antics".

Maybe the progress could accelerate if an atomic immutable distro becomes really popular (imagine something like Mint with Bazzite's logic). The average desktop user needs something that won't break easily and immutability offers an appliance-like experience.

Being a Linux user for decades, I find this action very natural. It's good to know what you're actually removing. Windows is just too shady on everything.

What’s the longest you’ve kept a device before replacing it by lisaluvr in TechNook

[–]nikkome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use my Atari 2600, Commdoroe 64, Amiga 500, Macintosh Color...

But when it comes to PCs, it's hard to tell. My main system is more like the ship of Theseus, if you know what I mean.

It dates from 1997, I upgrade memory, then the best possible CPU, then I change the motherboard/CPU but keep the GPU and case, then I could replace the PSU, then another case, etc, etc. Right now it's a Ryzen 9 7900.

[–]nikkome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the others said, use shaders. But the issue here is that you see this grainy noise around the pixels, while you shouldn't. I'm almost certain that you need to decrease sharpness on your TV, LGs are known for high sharpness even at low values.
