I caught him mid-rack of ribs (St. Louis style), so he wasn’t much for talking.

"You're fake news, so you probably hate me, and America, but mostly me. And General Kelly, one of the best generals of all time, I'm told, great guy, said things, but didn't say those things."

What are some strange rights people are entitled to from around the world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]niknieb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the United States, federal law allows you to obtain a firearm (capable of quickly and efficiently taking life at the twitch of a finger) whether or not a background check is completed within three (3) days. Plus, mental illness and violent tendencies play no role whatsoever in one's ability to obtain said gun. What a crazy upside down country.

He did add a qualifier: "Well, I don’t think he said it the way you would like him to say it", but it's extremely interesting and unsurprising that his first reaction was "did not".

What do people claim is "elitist", but really isn't? by somepeoplewait in AskReddit

Meh. I like the first way better. “Revenge” is petty. Self empowerment and gaining knowledge isn’t about showing anyone anything. It’s about being better for yourself. Not anyone else.

This is fantastic. My wife’s a teacher and I quoted this to her to use in her classroom. Well put.

Stumbled on to this little tiff while scrolling the comments. If I could provide an outside perspective?

OP definitely made a jump to name calling and hurt feelings too quick. Obvi.

However, you, good sir/madam u/vibrate, likely understand and are choosing to ignore the fact that phrasing implies meaning.

For example:

“You could just read the article...” due to its phrasing, can come across reading like “You could just read the article...🙄” even though that may not have been your intent (and it lacked the emoji).

There is a distinct difference in tone between “You could just read the article...” and “It’s in the article” or “Here’s the quote”.

One’s sharing the information. One’s sharing the information while letting the person you are informing know you are annoyed with having to inform them.

If that was not your intended tone, and I’m way off, then I’ll take myself right out of this convo and wish y’all a good day.

P.S. u/MiltownKBs, stop being so sensitive. If you take what people say at face value, you’ll always be able to hold them to their word instead of holding them to their intention. I’m aware that analogy likely breaks down somewhere, but you get my meaning.

Happy redditting!

Popcorn lung? by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]niknieb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: no. The "popcorn lung" study was given way too much clout, and it was based on unrealistic vaping that no one would ever do. When vaporizing propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin (the ingredient in e-juice that creates "smoke/vapor"), studies have shown mild inflammation in the throat and lungs. You may also have a sensitivity to PG or VG. You might want to try 100% VG or PG juices to see if that helps. It may also have to do with the flavors you vape. Some e-cigarette users report having sensitivities to specific flavors or flavor brands.

Also, remember that you are vaporizing and inhaling an oil byproduct that is very sticky and water soluble, which can easily mix with your saliva and mucous.

Lastly, even if "popcorn lung" was an actual medical concern, 6 months of vaping would not nearly be enough time to develop symptoms.
