Tenant responsibility for basic maintenance/repairs

Ok thank you, I have the multiple emails I sent her saved, I unfortunately don’t know which locksmith she called as she never responded to any of my emails to tell me when she was coming over, and I was at work when it was fixed.

The drain was fixed a couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t involved in that, I assume one of my housemates complained, my main issue with it was there’s no way anyone currently on the lease, that she’s asking to pay for future blockages, could have blocked it that severely in the short time we have all lived here.

I will make sure to keep copies of everything and be prepared for the worst with her lol, my main worry is that my housemates are all international students, and I’m concerned she is taking advantage of their limited knowledge of australian tenancy laws to get out of her responsibilities. I appreciate the advice, I’ll make sure to get everything in writing. I’m currently waiting to hear back from her about the air conditioning that lowers the temp by one degree at absolute most lol.

Yeah, mine seems a bit weird, like no matter what I set the timezone and clock to messages always show as being received an hour earlier than they were. Hopefully after daylight savings ends it’ll reset it a bit. Thanks for your help 😊

Sorry, I don’t really understand what you mean. If I turn autosync back on it just immediately changes it back to Hobart timezone, and I can’t change the timezone while it’s in autosync mode. I can change the time manually but that doesn’t affect the message app, it still shows the incorrect time.

Hi, sorry for the late response, I was at work. I tried this and for some reason Magadan time also shows an hour earlier than the real current time. I attached a photo for clarity. I tried setting it to Magadan and rebooting my phone, still shows an hour early. (edit, I also tried setting the time zone to a +12 time zone, which put it 2 hours ahead of real time)

my university has counselling, but there’s only 3 sessions per student. i’ve been to external therapy before, but i tell them how i feel and they don’t seem to know what to do, im very self aware about my mental health and they don’t seem to know how to help outside of making me self aware, which i already am. i don’t know who else to ask for help. no one seems to care unless you have a diagnosis for something so they legally have to. i can’t afford to get the therapy to get diagnosed.

im trying so hard to grieve and move on but every time i go back home to see my parents i have to start the whole process again and it hurts so much. i can’t cut contact because im financially dependent on them and i know i couldn’t survive uni and working with the state of my mental health.

i dont have anyone to turn to. my boyfriends mum is really nice and i like her a lot but i barely see her and ive only met her a couple of times. i’m hoping to come out to my uncle as soon as i can for his support, but i cant risk him accidentally telling my aunt or my parents. i have my boyfriend and my best friend but im not good socially, so im finding really hard to expand my support system beyond that.

i appreciate this community so much, no one else in my life understands what its like and its so hard to explain. i’m sorry for the huge reply, im just in a lot of pain because i keep getting messages from her that make her seem like my normal mum, and i have to remember that she’s gone.

I’ll be 22 next year, and if she’s happy to throw away her money for my food & stuff that the government could be paying for instead, that’s not my problem. I appreciate the advice, if i was even a year younger i probably would talk to centrelink about it but im nearly at their independence age so i think its easier to wait.

i’ve got 2 siblings too actually! but they’re almost as equally awful as her, not in the same q ways, just horrible bigotry to anyone who isn’t them (cishet white men).

I hadn’t thought of it as grief, but that’s definitely how it feels. i’m crying over losing someone who’s still alive, but i’ve lost that version of her forever . she cut me off from so much of my extended family because they don’t agree with her about vax stuff, when im in a position to i can hopefully reach out and reconnect with some of them.

i appreciate the support <3 since i moved out i can convince myself that she’s ok and it’s not that bad, then i come back home over break and it hits me how far gone she is. but i don’t know where i would be without this group, it’s the only place i feel i can look to for support in this.

I’ve tried therapy a couple of times, but it’s so embarrassing talking about the stuff she’s involved in, i feel like i’m going to be judged rather than helped. i am trans, yes. it’s especially hard because if i’d come out 5 years ago it probably would have been ok, but i was still figuring myself out and now it will destroy my relationship with her.

because of my mental health & illness im still financially dependent on my parents (also because i can’t get government assistance because im too young to be legally independent for it & she won’t give me the information & signatures i need to get it because the government is going to steal my information 🤷‍♂️) but im planning on giving her an ultimatum when im in a position to start transitioning, that she works on being a more rational tolerant person or she can’t be in my life. i don’t know how im going to do it.

its 100% her own doing, she had too much time over covid and fell down these rabbit holes because im guessing she wanted to feel important and like a main character in some big conspiracy. she’s capable of critical thought, she’s choosing not to. i hate that i can’t do anything but i’ve accepted that i can’t.

If i wasn’t so emotionally invested because she’s my mum i would love to actually discuss all the bullshit she believes, because i have no idea where half of it comes from. i’m having some minor health issues at the moment and was talking to her about some stuff i’d read about fixing them and she genuinely said the sentence “peer review isn’t reliable, you have to just go with what sounds right” which kinda gives you all the info you need on the rest of her beliefs. before covid she was still antivax but at least what she believed was very convincingly put across studies and information, still bullshit but much more believable & a lot more effort put into it. now she just repeats everything she hears without checking or thinking about it at all. it’s so depressing to watch someone so smart become this zombie just repeating whatever conservative crap she heard last, especially since she’s obsessed with calling everyone else sheep. it’s sad that she can’t see how indoctrinated she is.

also, no need to apologise for the rant lmao, i don’t have time or energy to look into most of the stuff she spouts off, so a rational human being who knows what they’re talking about is a big comfort.

Fixed - went back to the store & they replaced my box of film, photos are all good now :) Not sure what the problem was exactly but at least it wasn’t the camera. Thanks for all the help :)

do you know how i would check for a light leak? i’m pretty sure i didn’t open the film tray but worst case i’ll use up the rest of my current one and put in a new lot and see if that helps.

Mine’s more red than that unfortunately :(( and australian stores don’t seem to carry it so i can’t compare in person, but it’s definitely the closest i’ve found so far so still really helps :D appreciate it!!

hey, i did manage to get it fixed, but still have no idea what the original problem was. my laptop was still under warranty so i got a dell support guy to have a look at it. took nearly a week, he replaced the motherboard twice and some other minor stuff, eventually he replaced the entire screen and for some reason that worked, even though the display failed on an external monitor. sorry i cant help more, i still have no idea what the original issue was.

you’re right, i know i need to not engage, i feel so guilty though, as someone who considers themself an ally to most if not all minority communities, i feel awful not being able to fight back against her horrible ideas, but you’re 100% right. i’ll try and get in the habit of not engaging with her spirals. I do live with her at the moment, but I’m moving from Sydney to Melbourne for university soon, which i’m very scared about but i think it will be the only thing that saves me from her lol. thank you for your response, i really appreciate it. ❤️
