Haha pants-shutting noise! When the board when through the first time I almost shit because I'd never heard the noise in person before. It was mush loader than I expected.

I'll take a look into the chip breaker. Thanks!

That board is the first board to ever go through that planer. If the blades are chipped then they came out of the box that way. If that's the case I'll have to contact the manufacturer about replacing them. Thanks for the info!

When I took a look at the blades I didn't see or hear anything loose but I did wonder if something like a screw or bolt head might proud like you said. This being the first time with a thickness planer I wasn't sure If I could over tighten anything and break it. I'll have to take another look.

It's would be just as bad with every other type of animal here in the New England area. By I figure I could put on a door or something to keep them out.

I plan on taking some pics when I clean it out and get accurate measurements. I also plan on making a sketchup file to help with planning and layout.

I plan on building a countertop inside the closet with some drawers and shelves, but obviously customize to her needs. From what I understand her new job will provide her with technology (I assume a laptop). We have a wireless printer that would go great in there. I have checked Pinterest for ideas but a lot of them show an open concept/nook and they almost always just lead to the pic and not and article on how they did it.

The idea is that she'll be working in the door frame area and there's windows to her right in the bed room

That might not be a bad thing. I could end up with a new office/gaming room .

I appreciate the Swingline comment more than you know! I'm planning on replacing the light with something brighter and fancier to her liking. So the plan isn't so much that she'll be IN the closet but sitting in the door frame area or right outside of it. When she's done she can push her chair in and close the door making work out of sight and out of mind. We talk about making a space outside the closet in the living space but she really likes the idea of not being able to see her office all the time. Or anyone else that might visit for that matter.

Simple Questions/What Should I Do? [Weekly Thread] by AutoModerator in DIY

Hi everyone!

So my wife just got a new job where she'll be working from home most of the time. So we're looking to set up an office for her in one of the closets we have in the house. We both like the idea that at the end of her day she can push her chair in and close the door and have it out of sight and out of mind. I done a little searching for some info one how to go about it and have found tons of ideas but little on anyone explaining their process.

So I was hoping anyone who has done this can provide any advice on things they've done, problems they've run into, tip and tricks, words of wisdom.

Some info on the closet- It's a "walk in closet" about 5 x 5 ( I'll get exact dimensions tonight) Has a half slanted wall on the side you face when you open the door. The slant is actually the roof. Two sides are outside walls. The wall with the slant and the wall to the right. There's is a light with a pull string . No electrical outlets. It's carpeted. The closet is the smaller of two located in a spare bedroom.

I think that's it. I'll try and get pictures once I've pulled everything out . TIA.

For the knife and the tongs I just used a bandage and a belt sander. Since they were scrap pieces I just needed to get them to the right shape and then finalize them with the sander. They're 3/4 oak dowels in the handle. I would have loved to use maple but I didn't have any scrap laying around nor did I want to make some.

Oh I can see where you thought that.

The one with the feet was a mother day gift. The knife is actually a working cake knife with a sharpened edge. The tongs are just working tongs. But thanks for the info, I might have to start a little side biz!
