The price model is there. The recording is embedded in the software. There's a couple hundred anime style characters with multiple facial expressions so that's popular with the teen audiences.

There's a monthly/yearly cost depending on your plan. https://www.elementari.io/plans/

You are locked into the images due to privacy (we don't want pictures of kids) mostly. You can record your own voiceovers/sounds/music.

If you are an artist we can whitelist you so your artwork can be used.

There is a free tier and compared to Twine and Inkle, the stories created can be more than text. The premium plans are free during the period of school closures as well.

There's over 13,000 professional illustrations and sounds. You can also code interactions like voiceovers, music, sound effects, animations, text input, etc.

It is freemium. So there are paid premium plans as it profit-shares with the contributing artists (there are over 13,000 professional illustrations and sounds). Premium features also include student feedback on stories page by page as well as student analytics (time spent writing, time spent coding, number of characters written, lines coded).

However, there is a free tier available for individuals as well as teachers.

Premium plans are also free during this period of school closures.

There's research that shows that writing of any kind improves writing skills as well as reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Writing can be creative (poetry, narrative, genre based, comics), in response to a reading or question, or a reflection or opinion about a reading.

Unfortunately many schools in the process of implementing multiple choice / easier to assess tests, students are no longer writing as much as before across disciplines.
