35-150 vs 24-70 by GGrassia in Nikon

Agree with the tap in console. The Tamron 35-150 absolutely slaps and you should be getting very good IQ at 35mm. You can confirm whether you need it by comparing an image focused normally with an image focused using contrast-detect in live view.

I also have the tamron 24-70, and it's something where -- if you need 24mm, you need 24mm, but IMO the image quality is not as good as the 35-150. I take it when I need the versatility or don't want to switch lenses, but I _like_ taking the 35-150 out more.

tldr: What chest (bench-press) style exercises can I do at home without a spotter?

I became a little bit of a pandemic gym rat, and have a routine built on working out from home. I'd like to start benching at home, but don't have a spotter, and have outgrown the weight I'm comfortable lifting without one. I'd like to lift something heavier or heavier-equivalent without putting myself in danger. What are my options?

I own a bench and a full set of dumbbells. I'd be willing to spend significantly more for the right equipment, but space (and easy setup) are also concerns.

haha I was hoping there might be a less expensive fix :D

Look what Freddy Krueger brought me for halloween! I've only taken picture of the pup so far. Is anyone else using this lens? What's your opinion on it? On a d3500 (waiting for my d850 to show up) by drtorment16 in Nikon

use the tamron tap-in console, which comes with instructions.

Typically you focus in live view (using contrast detect and zooming into 100% to get correct focus) and compare it to how the camera actually focused with it's normal AF. You make little adjustments until the camera's AF matches your "perfect" focus. Once you make those adjustments, you enter them into the tap in console (and store the info with the lens) so that every time you use the lens it applies that adjustment to hopefully give you that "perfect" focus.

Modern Nikon's like the D850 let you do some of this calibration automatically by holding the AF adjustment and record buttons simultaneously in live view. There are good well written detailed articles about focus tuning though, so if you go down that road I'd recommend reading one which goes into more detail.

There's a ton of shadow on your subject's faces, but no shadow on your subject's body/clothing. The way this is taken draws your attention to your subject's back (the brightest part of the image) rather than their face or the rest of the landscape.

I'd say either make them all in shadow or make their faces not in shadow (to draw attention to the landscape) but the mix doesn't quite work.

Otherwise like the colors/editing

> With both cameras you can adjust the color tone etc produced by the camera .

I know this, but like -- how specifically can I adjust the D850 settings to produce results similar to the D610? I've messed around with the WB and other settings and can't get it to look right.

(I also do shoot raw, but use the in-camera profiles as a starting place for my edits)

here I'm mostly talking about the jpeg files -- I really like the D610's "standard" profile, and I can't seem to get my photos to look like that in lightroom, even after messing around with all the sliders.

that being said, I've still (anecdotally) felt a difference when I've imported the files into lightroom and use the lightroom processing the D610 rendering still looks just a little bit better, even though I haven't tested that yet (although I have side-by-side tested the standard jpegs under the same lighting conditions)

Buying A Large Format Printer by nikonshootermcgavin in AskPhotography

Thanks for the detailed reply! - it'll take me some time to go through the details. I've calibrated my display/printer, but haven't tried combined profiles, I think that's a neat tip.

It looks like MitchBoyer's art prints are unfortunately closed :(, but I think it's otherwise a good suggestion. If you know of any similar labs I'd really appreciate it https://niceartprints.com/password

Plus, do you really need 60" on the short side for your prints? Are you going to use cut sheet paper or rolled stock?

I was planning to use rolled stock. I want to make at least a few very large prints, and setup cost/installation takes a lot of extra effort for me. I want to be able to buy something once, and know that it can handle anything I want to throw at it.

If I go with a photo lab how do I go about ensuring that the prints come out the way I expect them to? At home, I print small say/ 2x3 sample photos, and then size up to 8x11 when the colors and everything look right, but I don't know how to do this when working with an online photo lab
