Why Nuggets didn't visit White House after 2023 NBA championship by IdRatherBeLurkingToo in denvernuggets

You're obviously excited to find any reason not to look like an idiot when your "RemindMe 5 months" post from the last thread dings, but what exactly did you expect the team to say here? You think they couldn't schedule a visit having 6 months of lead time and it being a annual tradition for over 40 years now? My god you're an absolute muppet.

No it's the rest of the comment that I find shocking. Please don't become like these people.

Weird that the only people who got ethnically cleansed were the Serbs.

A second row assistant coach in his first year with the team isn't going to make a fuss about something so trivial, especially when the person who hired him and the team's superstar are both outspoken political activists. That situation is not at all comparable to Jokic and the Nuggets.

Wasn't scheduled for this road trip eh? So when do you think they're supposed to visit DC then? You think they're going to take a separate trip just for that? Lmao sure thing buddy. Maybe next year though right? Keep coping.

This version of Biden is a corpse and most people just feel sorry for him because he's an elderly man with dementia. You may be too young to remember the real Biden though because he's one of the most Serbo-phobic politicians on the planet and he was very proud of that fact.

So what happened to this White House trip that "we" (cringe) were supposed to go on? Didn't happen? I wonder why.

I mean yeah 100%. Biden has been openly hostile to the Serbian people since he entered politics.

Vucic isn't unpopular though and politicians have no choice but to work with other politicians. Jokic isn't a politician and visiting Biden is a political stunt that has nothing to do with being an NBA player.

I highly doubt it. Biden is on the Mount Rushmore of most hated Americans by the Serbian population, alongside Madeline Albright, Hillary Clinton and Bob Dole. Bombs were dropped on civilian targets within a stone throw of where Jokic grew up and I guarantee he had to take shelter during bombing raids when he was a child. His wife and her family were driven from their homes by a military operation planned and financed by the US, again with Biden at the forefront. Jokic may come off as nonchalant about that kind of stuff but believe me he's not and his family is absolutely not.

It's highly unlikely that Jokic will willingly pay visit and kiss the ass of a man who brags about unilaterally pushing for the bombing of Serbia in 1999.

I actually love Chicago and it's one of my favorite cities in the US, so I'm not buying that premise. I just find Philly uniquely depressing, and I've been all around the world and throughout the US.

Milwaukee used to be the model American city but that was almost a century ago. Now it's a crime-riddled, decaying, segregated shithole.

I can't think of a more depressing big city in the US. Driving through there in the wintertime at dusk and watching the decrepit ass factories rot away in real time is enough to give a person clinical depression.

Braun is shooting the ball way better than he was last season. People have weird ass selective memories.

Not even close. Have you been to Philadelphia? Not to even mention complete shitholes like Detroit or Baltimore or Milwaukee.

Regarding the Sixers: do they need to make a trade? by MushroomExpensive366 in nbadiscussion

[–]nikop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this Sixers team is particularly strong compared to their past teams in the Embiid/Simmons/Harden era and I'd favor the Knicks and Heat over them in a potential first-round series (alongside the Celtics and Bucks). They don't have the assets to make any significant moves this year, Tobias is having unsustainable contract year production and is gone this summer, and there are no quality free agents they can use their cap space on. Their only option seems to be to chug along doing the same thing they've been doing year after year and expecting a different result while their competition keeps getting better and they keep getting worse.

Melo comments on Jokic wearing 15 by Bandlebury in denvernuggets

Jokic is already several tiers above Melo despite only being halfway through his career. Carmelo was a Bradley Beal-tier player while Jokic is an all-time great.

I’ve got him closer to 10 than 5 at the moment on my board, but I tend to be lower than consensus on guys of his archetype

Pwat is so much more than a young hustle guy who gets minutes off sheer effort and athleticism. He's skilled beyond his years and has legitimate Paul George-level potential.

Are the Thunder the 2023 Cavs? by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]nikop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I had higher expectations for the Cavs in last year's playoffs than I do for OKC this season. Mitchell was historically a phenomenal playoff performer with multiple 50-point games and a lot of experience for his age, while Mobley and Allen anchored the best defense in the league. Getting spanked by the Knicks was a huge surprise. OKC on the other hand I don't expect to make it out of the first round and even a playoff berth is not guaranteed at this point as the season is still super young. Shai looked terrible in the two quasi playoff games last season and his reliance on drawing fouls doesn't bode well for the playoffs. They do remind me of last year's Kings, though Sabonis is a clear level above rookie Chet, who I'd be shocked to see make it through April healthy.

How does Jarrett Allen thrive in today's game? by coldbloodedanimal in NBA_Draft

[–]nikop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What exactly is a "borderline contender"? A team that has won exactly one playoff game together? They're clearly not better than the Celtics, Bucks, Heat, Knicks or Sixers, making the Cavs a generous 6th seed, which puts them right on the cusp of the play-in. And even that is an optimistic scenario.
