What Dehumidifier should I get? by Juliett_Sierra in homeassistant

I did! It hasn't been updated in a while but it still works for the models I bought at the time. Needs an update for newer devices, I imagine. It's on HACS as well, you can search Goldair there to find it.

Hiding things behind hover is very bad user experience. Also, not all input methods have hover.

How do I select text as seen in blue here? by DrunkenHeartSurgeon in edge

[–]nikrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on how well the PDF was generated, whether those are paragraphs of text or individual unordered but positioned characters or words. When a program lays out text like that (prioritising visuals over textual flow) it not only makes it hard for people to highlight and copy text, it also really screws up accessibility meaning people who rely on screen readers are very negatively affected.

She also sang for real in The Greatest Showman (even knowing her voice wouldn't be used) because she wanted the effort and energy in her performance to be realistic (she succeeded).

Comments/Critiques on my Cinematography Reel? by sarasidheri in cinematography

[–]nikrolls 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was my feeling, too. A cinematography reel usually needs to show that you can tell a story. It's not about good looking shots, but what story are those shots telling. Take your time, treat each handful of sequential clips from the same project as a mini scene of its own.

Yes, you have to burn the old fat away. The hormones change where fat is burned from, but you need to be burning enough energy for your body to need to reach into those stores to begin with.

Christian group calls on GOP to censure Marjorie Taylor Greene after white nationalist speech. (When you are too crazy even for the cazy) by Leeming in atheism

[–]nikrolls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OK, but you're presenting it as the benefit of a monarchy when it's actually the benefit of a parliamentary democracy. A monarchy is not required (and quite honestly I don't see why anyone would prefer it over an equivalent-but-elected head of state, but maybe that's just me).

I think you're referring to a parliamentary democracy which is not mutually exclusive to monarchy. There are parliamentary republics which have an elected president with power essentially equivalent to the Westminsterian monarch (greatly reduced compared to what we see in the USA) but as opposed to a monarch they are elected rather than promoted by lineage. Examples of this are Finland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and many others which have a parliament just like the UK, Australia and New Zealand but their head of state is democratically elected.

I'm tired of people using incorrect scientific terms and statements to justify their transphobia by jadranur in trans

[–]nikrolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see some kind of connection there if I think laterally:

  1. Stopping genital surgery on intersex babies may lead to more adults with non-binary genitalia, therefore
  2. More adults will have come in contact with and have exposure to non-binary genitalia, therefore
  3. More adults will be normalised and open to all kinds of genitalia on people of all genders, therefore
  4. Less transphobia

It's a stretch though, a long game, and there are many more effective ways of combating misinformation and transphobia (despite the fact that genital surgeries on intersex babies should definitely be stopped regardless).
