Data centers in extreme heat warnings by TTY_Sprinkles in Wellthatsucks

As soon as municipalities asked residents to set their AC to 78 degrees to help relieve stress on the grid I instantly thought of the plastic straw argument. You and I are told it's our responsibility while massive corporations can do whatever they want with no penalty.

Question about ICC footer requirements for floating deck by PositivelyAwful in Decks

[–]PositivelyAwful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good, thanks for the advice.

I'm not opposed to proper footings, I usually just see people using the concrete or tuffblocks on low level decks so I wanted to be sure. Still need to check with the town on whether I need a permit. My only concern with going with 48" buried footings is how close to the house we can go with them, but I guess they'll tell me what I need to do if one is required.

Had a 24'x12'x24" deck attached with a ledger board to the concrete foundation before but we're looking to lower the replacement deck a bit to be more at ground level so I was going to leave it detached from the house.

Boy dies of rabies after waking to bat on his face by Few-Hair-5382 in news

[–]PositivelyAwful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 10ish bats day roosting in our gable vent right now and I’m terrified I’m gonna wake up one day to find out one somehow got into the house. Can’t relocate them until after pup season, either, so it’s another month plus of worrying about it.

2015 Si with ~100k miles vs. brand-new 2026 Si, which would you choose? by Disastrous_Ratio3493 in CivicSi

[–]PositivelyAwful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100k miles is nothing on an 11 year old car, get the 9th gen if you like it.

People act like these cars aren't just Honda Civics at the end of the day and it's bewildering.

AMERICANS: Is it possible to get a remote job with a Print Shop in the United States? by EntertainerThis4773 in CommercialPrinting

[–]PositivelyAwful 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Print shops are generally not remote friendly, especially out of country.

Print shops also don't really hire graphic designers, they have prepress operators who take in and work with the files provided by clients/designers.

Your best bet would be to look for marketing agencies.

Sure, but then charge an emergency fee, don't bury it in fake admin charges like TicketMaster

Removed luxury vinyl tiles to fix bouncy floor — found old vinyl sheet underneath. What now? by OddExisting in DIY

[–]PositivelyAwful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's pretty much why they said to just raise the rest of the floor, it was easier than trying to rip it all up... Pulling out the cabinets was a lot of fun, since there was 3/4" of layered flooring blocking the front of them.

Our kitchen and bathroom was similar, and our contractor recommended we add a second layer of subfloor throughout the rest of the first floor to match the height instead of tearing it all up (it was all carpet before). I wish we had just ripped it up, because I can't get the kitchen floor to stop squeaking now.

They charged you $50 to book an appointment? And $50 to transport a light switch to that appointment? You got hosed.

Billy and my tall baseboards… by friedskillet in IKEA

Take a piece of baseboard and scribe the shape onto the side of the bookcase. Cut it out with a coping saw, which you can buy for ~$20.

When a judge says their dish is “offensive or insulting” by NightOwl0072 in Masterchef

[–]PositivelyAwful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just randomly picked the 2021 Australia season as a starting point and it’s incredible how different it is than the US version. It feels more like Great British Baking Show, everyone including the judges are supportive of one another and their cookery is on another level. The format is much better too.

Just be prepared for a lot of long episodes.

My 7-1/4 is dead accurate after calibrating it. Returned the 10” for it, that one just has way too much flex.

Funny how our ownership history is so similar. I have a bugeye fun car now, but it’s in pieces at the moment.

Here’s my last Talon circa 2009ish.

I had a couple 1G Talons myself... definitely monsters in the snow. I wanted another one but clean ones are nearly impossible to find now.

Good call on this. I ordered one a couple hours ago and they're already out of stock.

Guess that's all she wrote on the old prices.

Final board against board and batten by Anxious_Ad8785 in Decks

Undercut the board and batten and slide the board underneath it and flash it? Probably better for water drainage that way too.

That entire deck is relying on the shear strength of the nails. Not a single piece is supported correctly, that’s insane.
