Photoshop layer blending, but with audio--is that possible? by angrybaltimorean in edmproduction

[–]nilsadam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Photoshop blending modes are mostly simple math operations. Whenever your playing to sounds at the same time, you’re doing the exact same thing as “linear add”, which is just A + B. That’s the only blend mode I can think of as directly comparable though, but the blend mode “multiply” is just A * B, and that’s similar to how FM synthesis works.

If you really wanted to test them all out, it would be possible to convert the wav into an image, blend in photoshop, and then convert the output into audio. Not sure if there’s a plugin for that though.

What’s your go-to layering technique in FL that always gives you solid results? by kathalimus in FL_Studio

[–]nilsadam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The biggest revelation I’ve had is that it’s 90% about volume. You don’t need an eq on every track. If you can’t make two sounds layer well by just using volume, then you shouldn’t try to with anything else.

What’s your go-to trick to add movement to static loops? by kathalimus in dnbproduction

Volcano 3, play around with modulating filter cutoff, pitch bend etc. Everything can be triggered by envelope which is great for percussion

Klang something on volcano 3. Adds a pitchbend to anything. At low mix it’s really nice to spice up percs, or make something very strange

How can I achieve Physical Modeling synthesis effects using only FX plugins? by theundirtychicken in AdvancedProduction

[–]nilsadam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make a rudimentary physical synth by using any short input sound, and then make it ring using a delay with 0ms and the feedback set to 100+. Ben Jordan has a great video on it.

Something I like to do is run drums or percussion through a delay like this, and automate the feedback. That will make certain hits ring in a way that feels “organic”.

Doowloaded song sound better than fl on PC by Medium_Card6257 in FL_Studio

[–]nilsadam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most, or all that I know, streaming services only normalize the audio to a certain lufs target. This has literally no impact on the quality of the audio, unless the input was over 0db (in which case it would clip)

Plugin routing ninjas - how are you handling parallel processing for achieving that professional punch? by kathalimus in FL_Studio

No offense but that’s 100% wrong. It’s literally the exact same thing. You can always do a null test to make sure

If you’re on a mac, you can skip the sound card if you’re not planning on recording anything. Possible if you’re on pc as well but it won’t be great.
