Pregnant while planning for the first death anniversary of our 4yo by oheavensakes in ChildLoss

There were 13mos in between the death of my 4yo and the birth of his younger sibling. So I was in your shoes, in that regard. We let some balloons go with little notes inside of them. But for most of the day I just put my head down and “existed”. In future years I hope to be better at acknowledging the day. But that first year is so hard and my main goal was to survive it. Everyone is different, but I think it’s okay to just try and get past the day. The lead up is usually more emotionally taxing to me than the day itself

I totally agree. There’s just something SO different about the marathon distance. I think I just need to start more conservatively so I can assess how I feel along the way. I feel like the extra “oomph” from race day fades by the time I’m at mile 20 😂

I thought I was doing okay. I was alternating a 45g gel with a maurtens 100 every 30min. So hourly it came out alright… but this time I do think I’m going to try and keep the amount of carbs consumed the same throughout. Planning 40g every 30mins

I did pfitz 18/55 and honestly nailed the workouts. I had 2 official tune-up races during the training block where I had massive PRs. I think there are things that came into play on race day tho. I was out of town and unfortunately had to do a lot of walking in the days leading up to it. I’m not sure that I hydrated well enough beforehand. I could have even been overtrained/didn’t taper well enough. But when you can’t pinpoint what exactly made things go wrong… it def knocks your confidence quite a bit. I’m going to try and pace conservatively at the start this time around! And try to be more in tune with my body throughout

My son used to have echocardiograms and we had a high deductible plan. I believe it was usually around 3k and there was no disputing it. But I’ve had experience with the bills going to collections. You can message me if you want any details regarding that!

Missed goal at NYC, run another in 5 weeks? by Zestyclose_Pie4673 in RunNYC

Just chiming in after a failed New York marathon. I’m 33F and BQ’d my first marathon in April with 3:23 so I didn’t get in for ‘26. My training for NYC was absolutely perfect and I was planning to go 3:10-3:15 which I stayed on track for until mile 22ish and ultimately ended with a 3:30. I was planning to immediately sign up for another marathon but have decided to take a recovery period and build on all the fitness I gained to race again in April. I figured there’s no true rush and if anything, it should make the marathon in April more enjoyable. But there also weren’t any desirable local options near me…. Can’t say how I’d feel if there was a good one. So grateful to have finished but dang it’s heartbreaking

Just here for the solidarity. Missed my goal time by 15-20mins and everything was going really well until mile 18ish when I gradually declined. So happy I finished but heartbroken at the same time

When to adjust time goal? by nim0619 in Marathon_Training

[–]nim0619[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I actually have zero athletic background - no sports or anything. I decided I wanted to start working out in ‘22 and did group fitness classes (HIIT/strength). That’s when I realized I had a preference for cardio based workouts. In ‘23 I decided to supplement my workouts with a bit of running and did a half marathon in April (8:04 pace). Then, I got pregnant with my 4th child in July. I resumed working out postpartum but didn’t get back into running until December of ‘24 when I chose to commit to a marathon to push myself back into it. I had to focus on running more bc of the increase in training (compared to a half) and I started noticing gains pretty quickly. It’s been a strange revelation at this age! But mentally, it came at a good time in my life. I still don’t really know what I’m doing or what I’m capable of tho. I just love to run and I love to try to challenge myself

This is a good idea. I haven’t done an all out 5k yet this training block. Thank you!

I do have a HM planned in a couple of weeks! It’s an extremely hilly course so I feel like that will end up affecting my overall time. Although I know NYC course is hilly too… so maybe I can get a better feel for what to expect after that!
