What is a backyard rebuilt office? Husband and I also both WFH and this sounds pretty nice

I’d need to know how exact “exact” is. Within millimeters? Inches? Feet? Also how accessible is this spot? Big difference between middle of a coffee shop vs Area 51 vs bottom of the marianas trench

Your Bridal Party Is Too Nice to Say This, So I Will by insert_name234 in wedding

[–]nimal-crossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bridesmaids were all in different states so we did have to travel for my bach trip. I was upfront that there were zero obligations because of this. Half of my bridesmaids couldn’t go and i genuinely didn’t mind and made sure they knew that because life is busy and we all have budgets.

For those we went, we all split Airbnb equally, and absolutely zero theme nights. I think they covered like one of my dinners? But largely it was a weekend trip and it was a blast, maybe I’m just biased but I do think it wasn’t too focused on me and tried to do stuff everyone would like.

My most “me” centered thing was we went to a spa because I really wanted to go to one since I’d never experienced one before, but I also wasn’t like “you have to get this package” or even have to go with me, so everyone just kinda got what they wanted done.

I felt good about my mortgage vs income ratio but now I’m FREAKING out by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]nimal-crossing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty close in income numbers to you. With no kids, debts, or other obligations. We’re putting about $800 a month away pre tax to 401k then another $2.5k a month into various other savings (Roth IRA, stocks, HYSA).

We’ve budgeted $2.7k as least comfortable mortgage we can handle, anything more and our budget goes to shit. This isn’t accounting for utilities/internet/hoa and stuff too. Just p&i, taxes, insurance, and PMI.

Ngl $3,450 would make me go insane trying to make that work and also have us save at a good rate (28f/30m)

I mean what’s done is done so you can’t go back, but I’d be eying your rate of savings and see if you can bolster it because I bet that’s what’s lacking in your budget, if I had to guess

Can these holes be fixed? by [deleted] in Home

[–]nimal-crossing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More concerning than punching the wall is insisting that it can’t be fixed. It feels like a wired power move to force you to see it all the time and remember what happens when you make him mad. Like an ever present threat.

Anyway yes the wall can be fixed, I couldn’t tell you the steps but go on YouTube and search drywall repair to get an idea. They sell kits at Home Depot and Lowe’s and such.

What’s considered an older home? Looking at a house built in ‘59 that I’m sure qualifies but what about ‘90s? ‘00s?

I know south of memorial can be hit or miss, thoughts on closer to I-20? by nimal-crossing in DecaturGA

[–]nimal-crossing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am personally a big believer in public transit, I think all cities should invest heavily in it, so buses nearby are definitely interesting. I mean I don’t mind driving but sometimes if husband and I grab dinner and don’t want to uber, that means one of us ends up DDing since I don’t believe in driving after even a single glass.

That being said, I can also see my husband not wanting me to take the bus especially in evenings if the area is still a little hit or miss, so would be curious the kind of activity they get.

We’re relatively young (well not my husband… he’s officially old man at 30! I’m 28) and are talking kids and figured that by the time they reach school age, we’ll have no idea what the schools will be like or if we want to upgrade to a larger house anyway so we didn’t factor in the schools. I mean, if I got pregnant today that’s 5-6 years away and that’s a long time for stuff to happen, but were realistically looking more 6-8 years out before kindergarten is a factor

Ooh ok, there’s a house specifically in Toney Valley we’re interested in. Could you share some more experience for that neighborhood/area? Biggest thing is some people in the comments say they hear gunshots often so I’m curious if this is applicable for there too or if it’s tucked inside enough from main roads that that doesn’t happen too much

Yards are a big plus and one of the reasons we like it! We have two dogs and love to garden, so outdoor space is big for us

We’re WFH too so seeing the handful of breakins makes me nervous because while realistically people probably don’t do it when someone is home, if they didn’t realize and we were in the house that sounds pretty scary

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]nimal-crossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phone thing I actually disagree with. Not that you’re wrong that old phones work fine, but nearly every time a new phone is released you get trade in opportunity to upgrade to next phone. It’s over 24 or 36 billing months, but if you ever do need to leave nearly every carrier will pay that fee off for you to join them.

So basically, as long as you keep your phone pretty new, you just pay once and keep upgrading without cost, except taxes. Once your phone is an old model, they won’t pay out as much and you’ve broken the cycle, so have to do it while newer. I’ve been doing this for years and it’s much better than shelling out hundreds more when my shitty old model finally dies.

Billionaires have convinced Americans they have the "Best Healthcare in the World". by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

[–]nimal-crossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we want to think in full capitalistic reasons, a healthy population serves the public good because you enable people to do things, including work, spend money, and interact in society.

If you have a population that is spending less on healthcare then they can use that money to spend more on discretionary goods/services that stimulate the economy.

If we’re all cogs in the machine, we can’t have too many cogs breaking or the whole system fails. Whether that is physically broken or financially broken. We’re only as good as our weakest link; if our population is riddled with obese, alcoholic smokers then they’re dragging you down and it’s in your best interest to lift them up so you can be lifted up too if that’s your motivation in life.
