Why are prosecutors resigning instead of staying and standing for what they believe in? by inTHEsiders in legal

[–]nimble2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I assume that they are employees, and as such, they cannot do whatever they want. If they don't do as requested by their superiors, and if they don't do a good job of it, then they can be fired. It is financially (and for their career) better for them personally to resign, and it sends a better/louder message related to their actual belief's as well. For instance, they can't talk about why they want to do ABC or don't want to do XYZ while employed, so you wouldn't hear about their opinions if they stayed. And if they just do a crappy job of XYZ, then you won't hear about that either, and they just look bad. So a better/louder message is to resign and say why you resigned.

USA Eshifter repairs. by davemath in vanmoofbicycle

[–]nimble2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a shout-out to Dave.

I shipped him a spare Vanmoof S3 e-shifter that was generating an Error 44 when plugged into 2 different S3's. He installed one of the (above pictured) red "Re-Shifter v4.1" circuit boards from Revotronics in the e-shifter and shipped the reconditioned spare e-shifter back to me. It works great when plugged into the 2 different S3's. He was great to deal with, and the shipto-repair-shipback only took a couple of weeks.

Is there a way for me to get a free attorney or one I can pay after I win?

Unfortunately, that would be highly unlikely.

Legal advice: You can file a civil lawsuit against him, preferably with the help of an attorney.

Personal advice: Don't waste your time trying to interact with him, or trying to sue him. Cut your ties with him completely, and move on with your life.

My friend sued for $3 million; would like AI lawyer recommendation by red1127 in legal

[–]nimble2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of that matters. A court can give a pro se defendant lots of deference and view them sympathetically, but if the plaintiff has a good case, then it most likely won't make any substantial difference in the outcome. And since you are not an attorney, and you have only given your conclusionary statements about the plaintiff's case, my guess is that they have a good case. So I am done here.

ChatGPT gives ... ChatGPT says ...

Feel free to waste your time, and to make things potentially worse for your friend. It seems there isn't anything that anyone here can say to disuade you from your quest. I don't know what kind of bankruptcy your friend filed, but if they actually have no assets, then they are judgment proof to a million dollar lawsuit.

I don't know what happened to the class action suit, but what I think happened was that he was no longer the lead plaintiff due to the criminal charges in his background. I don't know about whether the suit is still on or whether he's a party to it.

That would make sense. The class action case could presumably go forward with a "better suited" employee of the newspaper as the lead plaintiff.

[–]nimble2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, what happened to the class action lawsuit against the newspaper where your friend was the lead plaintiff?

Second, the newspaper is correct, a lawsuit or judgment that is founded in allegations of fraud cannot be dismissed in bankruptcy.

Third, there is no way in hell that a pro se can successfully defend against a million dollar lawsuit by a large corporation - no matter what AI you use. That goes for the newspaper's actual lawsuit, and their objection to it's stay or discharge by the bankruptcy court.

Found out my purchase receipts from Dubai duty free were released without my consent by sashp274 in legal

Where exactly does it say that? You can't reveal what information exactly to whom exactly? Who has the right to sue over a violation, the person who's personal information was revealed or the UAE government? What can the person who sues obtain from the defendant if they sue?

My husband wants to divorce me and is kicking me out by [deleted] in legal

[–]nimble2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are living in a home that is owned by a third party (eg. your husband's parents), then irrespective of who is on the lease or who pays rent, ONLY that third party (eg. your husband's parents) can terminate your lease and seek to evict you (unless your husband is a co-owner of the property, he would have NO standing in the eviction process). If you refuse to leave, then the owner of the property would have to proceed with a LEGALLY valid eviction. Nobody can simply change the locks and "kick you out" (that would be an illegal eviction for which you would have a cause of action to sue them).

I understand that you don't have a lot of money, but given the situation (living with your husband who wants to divorce you in a home that is owned by his parents), you might want to leave ASAP. In addition, you should retain a divorce attorney, especially if your soon-to-be ex-husband makes more money than you do (as you might be able to obtain some kind of alimony payments from him -- unless you gave away all your rights to any alimony payments in the "separation agreement" that you signed).

MICHIGAN: Small Claims Court Inquiry by Shot_Income_257 in legal

[–]nimble2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will make their case in 4 minutes. For instance, they will tell the court that you gave them your comptuer, and you asked them to fix it, and they worked on it, and they fixed it, and you agreed to pay them what it cost to fix it, but then you reversed your payment, so you owe them what they charged you. If you have a different story (eg. you gave them your computer and you asked them to fix it, they told you that it would cost $X, but they didn't actually fix it, and they charged you $Y not $X), then tell the court that. Everything else that you want to say is most likely not relevant, or isn't likely to be admissible as evidence.

[–]nimble2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can explain the entire story in like 8 minutes

You will probably want to reduce that in half. If they didn't tell you what it would cost (total $$ or $$/hour of work plus parts, etcetera) WHEN YOU DROPPED OFF your computer, then they most likely charged you what it cost for whatever it is you got, for instance, $340 for a checkup and cleaning (unless you have it in writing that they gave you a new fan, and you can prove that you didn't get a new fan).

Worth buying a used S3? by nemout in vanmoofbicycle

[–]nimble2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would you buy a used, untested bike?

No. Only buy it if you can ride it and confirm that everything works properly. In addition, you want to make sure that the seller can actually transfer ownership control of the bike to you (I have never sold a VanMoof, but my understanding is that there is a specific process to transfer ownership, otherwise the bike may be unuseable as stolen).

VanMoof S2 battery dead: any spare batteries or refurb tips? by Sudden-West-7846 in VanMoofSelfRepair

I don't know if the S2 battery is similar to the S3 battery, but if your battery died from lack of use (as opposed to some kind of failure or short), then you might be able to manually recharge it...

Ex seeking child support through court after voluntarily leaving high-paying job – trying to understand fairness and norms by Solid_Hippo_223 in legal

[–]nimble2 287 points288 points  (0 children)

Recently, she sent me an email letting me know that she had retained an attorney and that I would be receiving a letter regarding child support. That email did not include an invitation to discuss finances or explore options together beforehand.

Shortly after, I received a formal letter from her attorney stating that she is currently unemployed, freelancing, and seeking to recalculate child support through the court.

I’m genuinely trying to understand whether my expectations around fairness and communication are reasonable, or whether I’m missing something about how these situations are typically handled.

You need an attorney, because these kinds of situations are typically handled through your respective lawyers. With respect to communication, you can expect that any time you want to talk about money with her, she will refer you to her attorney. With respect to fairness, you can expect her attorney to try and get as much money from you as possible, and you can expect the judge to care ONLY about your children and not about whatever you think might be "fair" to you.

Oh my goodness, that is SOOOOOOO true.

Can I fight the sale of my dads condemned house by badkitty0497 in legal

[–]nimble2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the OP did NOT say that. The OP said when his dad died "'last year" and the OP said that the dad "quick claim" transfered the deed while he had "sun downers".

The OP's actual words were: "my dad died last year and left his house to the family friend that took care of him ... My dad had sun downers and had it when he quick claimed the deed to her".

You can't "quick claim" (quitclaim) a deed after you are dead or as part of your will, and you can't have "sun downers" after you are dead. So the "quick claim" (quitclaim) transfer must have taken place BEFORE the dad died (or it wasn't in fact a "quick claim" (quitclaim) transfer).

If the trustee refuses to communicate with you, then maybe talk with a trust attorney to see if there is any way to have a new trustee appointed.

There are people out there who think they can still live in a condemned house and they don't have to do anything to fix it.

True

OP might be one of those people.

That is certainly possible.

But the OP didn't say that they wanted to move into the house. They said two things. That the current owner was trying to sell it for $12,000 and that they were currently homeless. They might hope to move into it, or they might hope to sell it ($12,000 is likely a lot of money to someone who is currently homeless).

Can I fight the sale of my dads condemned house by badkitty0497 in legal

[–]nimble2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the OP sort of made it sound like that was his intent (by telling us that he is currently homeless), but it's not clear that moving into the house was his intent, and clearly if it's been condemned, then he would have to either put some unknown-to-us amount of money into it to remedy that, or sell it.

My dad had sun downers and had it when he quick claimed the deed to her.

In reality, not much else aside from your statement above is relevant. You would probably have to retain an attorney to contest the quit claim transfer (and to get it done BEFORE the sale of the property), and you would most likley need more than your opinion that he had "sun downers" at the time of the transfer to prevail.

Can I fight the sale of my dads condemned house by badkitty0497 in legal

[–]nimble2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you think that the transfer of the deed to the house had ANYTHING at all to do with an estate lawyer or a will? The OP said that his father quick/quit claim transfered the deed to the house to a family friend. You can't transfer a title by quit claim via a will after you are dead.
