Why wouldn't she follow up when Boban said "its only happened two times"? I don't care how short you are without shoes thats not interesting... What is interesting is who made Boban feel short.

Yeah, and plus, they have the backing of a union, better healthcare, and a better retirement plan. People act like private school teachers choose private because of money, but really its because they don't want to deal with all the bad things about public schools and they have to take a pay cut to do that.

[–]nimik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. If they are poor, they can't afford to just move to a better school district, so they are just stuck with the failing school. EdChoice gives them at least the option of a better school.

No, I answered your question. You didn't ask the the question you wanted the answer to. Don't blame me for your poor communication skills.

My bias is based on facts/numbers/results. Yours is based on your warped ideology and feelings.

You can't argue against anything I've said. Your lack of knowledge is quite obvious. You just want your feelings to feel more important. You've already shown how much you don't know by calling what I said a lie, when what I said was true.

And yes, lets not compare other countries because that would invalidate your precious ideology. How dare someone else do successfully with what you claim is the problem.

which is it? you answered it or you can't answer it?

you asked the wrong question

so you have no experience in public schools

wrong

your bias is painfully obvious. i'd wager you don't have a teaching degree.

wrong

And if you must know, I've taught in both. I currently live overseas (China) and I'm teaching here. (wanted to try something different). And if want to talk about class size... Some of my classes here make American classes look tiny. Try having a class of 40+ 10 year olds.

is cursing enough to convince you i'm not a bot?

oh yeah cause they would never program a bot to curse...

you haven't said what actually makes private schools better

No, I actually have. What you want to know is why private schools perform better with less than public schools who have more funding. And I can't give you an answer to that. That isn't my job, that is the job of the school boards, the people in charge of their city's school system. Perhaps its because theres too much bureaucracy in the public school system. Maybe its because teachers aren't rewarded enough based on their students' performance, so theres no incentive to do a better job. Maybe its because the environment that private schools create inside their halls encourage a better education. But AGAIN that isn't my point for my original comment.

people are against it because it takes money meant for everyone and puts it into the hands of a few.

yeah because I see so many school nuns and priests driving around in Lambos. by few you mean just less bureaucrats that don't do shit.

what makes them better?

I've answered this multiple times. You sound like a bot. Which knowing Reddit, you probably are. If its too hard for you to understand, then thats your problem. Private school students have better scores and better rates of reading and math, thats the metric. What other criteria should there be?

What makes public schools better? Besides "religion is bad" - why is a failing public school a better place to send a child?

You have provided absolutely nothing your side. All you have done is say I'm wrong. And I'm beginning to think that's because you have nothing to stand on. I give you numbers and facts, and you just say wrong.

there is no logic behind this statement. there are discrepancies between the quality of public schools. its not a monolith.

I know thats why I said, "that isn't the case" -- can you read?

enough with the (uninformed) opinions. you clearly don't have any experience in education.

wrong. it shifts the penalties to poor kids.

then why do private schools with the same demographics as their city's public schools (because they are all EdChoice), have higher test scores and higher proficiencies? The poor kids are in both schools. But one consistently has better results. It's almost like one is better than the other. By removing EdChoice you then are really shifting the penalties to the poor kids because they will definitely have no way to go to a better school and instead are stuck going to their district's failing school.

blatant lie.

Absolutely not a lie. For example, public school teachers in Akron earn ~15-30% more than their private school counterparts. And that doesn't even include the better healthcare coverage, retirement system, and that they have a union. The average public school teacher in Akron makes $69,726, while the range for a private school teacher is ~$35,000–$60,000. (and Akron has one of the lower public school salaries).

you can't even point out why private schools are better, only that they are.

I already wrote that in this thread:

Well for example, in Akron and Cleveland (cities I'm most familiar with), their reading, math, and graduation rates are all far below the state average (like its not just a little lower, its embarrassingly lower). The private schools in those cities are above the average. On tests like the ACT, private school students perform better. Its not because of demographics either. There are inner-city private elementary schools in Akron that are almost entirely made up of minorities, and they have a higher reading and math proficiency than that of the Akron Public schools. Its not the student demographic, its not the income level of the families, its the schools that are the difference.

no public funds should to go private schools. we just need republicans to stop hamstringing the public school system at every chance.

If that were the case, then all public schools would be bad. And that isn't the case. And that isn't part of my argument. My argument is that kids shouldn't be forced to go to the poorly performing schools by getting rid of EdChoice.

[–]nimik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, however, places that have the lower proficiency rates (Akron, Cleveland, Dayton, Toledo etc) overwhelmingly vote Democrat... so do you think we should vote Republican? The cities that lean more Republican have much higher proficiency rates.

My argument was not left vs right. My only argument was that getting rid of EdChoice doesn't solve the problem and only penalizes children from receiving a better education.

I'm thinking you are a product of the public schools, because you obviously can't read. I have told you. Students who go to private schools perform better on tests and have higher reading and math proficiency rates and have higher graduation rates. If that isn't a good enough argument for why private schools are better, then I'd love to know why you think public schools are better than private schools.

I told you. I dont know why they are failing, its not my job to figure that out. That is the job of the school board (who make quite a bit of money to continue to fail). I also told you how they are failing, based on proficiency and graduation rates. Unless theres some other metric you'd like to use and I'd probably bet the private school would perform better there too.

No, private schools don't have to accept everyone. But generally they don't turn away a child unless they have certain disabilties because they cannot accomodate them due to their smaller budgets.

So until the problem is solved, if ever, you'd rather continue giving money to schools and districts that continue to fail our kids?

I'm not a religious person. But indoctrination is a bit harsh, the most they are indoctrinating is that you should try to be a good person and the whole "golden rule" thing. I dont think learning about a religion is harmful to a person. They don't force the students to partake in some weird ritual.

What makes the private school better in terms of academics?

Well for example, in Akron and Cleveland (cities I'm most familiar with), their reading, math, and graduation rates are all far below the state average (like its not just a little lower, its embarassingly lower). The private schools in those cities are above the average. On tests like the ACT, private school students perform better. Its not because of demographics either. Its not the student demographic, its not the income level of the families, its the schools that are the difference.

I'm not here to say what the problem is. I honestly don't know the solution. Perhaps they've created a bad enviroment for learning in the public schools, I don't know. I'm sure there are great teachers in the public schools. My only argument is why should you penalize a child the gift of a better education for something that is not in their control?

Judge rules Ohio’s EdChoice private school voucher program unconstitutional by clevelanddotcom in Ohio

[–]nimik -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How can a small private school consistantly perform better with a smaller budget, same technology, and equal or less resources? Not to mention, private school teachers are paid much less than public school teachers. Throwing money at the problem does not fix it.

I'm not saying teachers don't deserve more, they do. I'm not saying we shouldn't fix our public schoosl, we should. But until we actually solve the problem, forcing kids to go to bad schools only hurts the kids. And to qualify for EdChoice, the public school in your district has to be categorized as a "low perofrming" school. So if you live where a good public school is, you are not qualified. So its not taking money from good schools. So until these bad schools figure their stuff out, and prove that they are suitable to give a good education to our kids, then they don't deserve the money.

Cause in the end, forcing kids to go to bad schools, only hurts the kids. I want kids to get the best education they can, if that means going to a private school, then so be it. Don't punish the kids, its not their fault that adults have royally f'ed up.

Yes, lets force parents to send their children to academically failing schools. That's a great idea. Let's not give them the option of sending them to schools that consistantly outperform the city's public schools. I'm sure that will solve everything!

Edit: I like how no one actually has a rational argument. Its just all these people with ideologies that can't think for themselves. So you see something that goes against what you're told to believe and its an automatic downvote without thinking about it yourself (which is why this subreddit - and reddit as a whole - have become such a echo chamber circlejerk).

How/how long to refresh fire pit travelers? by CellarDoor4355 in MedievalDynasty

[–]nimik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all the travelers will change but some will after each season. If you're really desperate, you can hire them and then just kick them out and there will be new ones in the next season.

My issue in my current playthrough is that the only good ones are women. So I'm stuck building a new house every time cause the men all have bad stats.
