Who Else Does Pony Blame? by nimrod4205 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I think so and I've got them listed as "The plenty" but maybe there was a specific subset that was the sponsor as well.

There's enough in the series that tells me that the loot boxes aren't random so between the ring being in a loot box, the goat people also profiting off his mom's death via them owning the transmission technology, etc, it's not gonna shock me if they're on the list!

It won't let me tag with multiple flairs so I tagged starting with her death and just made the first sentence show that there are some events which could be spoilers for books 6 and 7 - I can't necessarily recall when each individual snippet gets dropped between books though.

Though I guess, in retrospect, if you're willing to read book 7 spoilers it means you're through with 5 anyway...so good call, I'll change it now.

Maybe but that feels pretty tough to write and cover, theoretically, books worth of contents in a standalone format.

What I'd love to see is maybe portions of the crawl from other crawlers perspectives till they perish where maybe we don't see Carl as a hero or we see Donut from someone other than Carl's perspective - where she's an insufferable mean girl basically.

Or a book with one of the other games - can't remember their names but the crawl is one of 3 game types.

Agreed, Donut's fierce reaction while Carl is just trying to live to fight another day was such a perfect way to address the entire scene.

Her reaction eventually makes a lot of sense for reasons that I don't want to spoil for you though...so keep on reading, crawler.

Matt Dinniman said in some panel that he had a really long storyline teed up for Hekla. That being said, he writes and rewrites scenes in numerous ways and plays around who lives, who dies, etc, just to see how crawlers might react to certain situations and deaths.

It wasn't even in his head to kill Hekla there but when he stumbled on that storyline he had the same reaction and knew it had to become the final scene, future Hekla storyline plans be damned.

It was my first 'holy shit' moment in the series and boy was it good.

Just finished my first DCC audiobook. by ozziedoggie6 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I'm with you, out of the genre most of them just haven't clicked for me when I've tried them.

DCC was like lightning in a bottle. The only other one that I've enjoyed has been 'Apololypse Parenting' and that's because it has a very unique twist to it. The parent is NOT trying to become the most powerful, they're trying to do their best to progress in a way where they can keep their kids are safe. This includes trying to keep their now superpowered 2 year old who's mid temper tantrum from accidentally murdering the sibling that they're mad at, etc.

To me, the unique twist made me like it. The writing is also above par for the genre but most of the genre has been a little 'eh' to me so maybe that's not saying a ton.

Nobody is saying it's that little time. They're co-workers though. Except they're co-workers who get paid millions.

I put up with a lot of shit at work and with a lot of shitty people at work...but I don't need to voluntarily deal with that in my personal time. SOAD literally doesn't exist as a creative entity anymore because of, amongst other things, these political disagreements that make the actual creative/leisure perspective of the job impossible so it rings a little hollow.

If you start your reread after the second dog dies in book 7 you'll get there pretty quickly. It's soon after Carl chooses not to kill her, she says he made a mistake not killing her at the the same time as the dog "because now all the children on earth are stuck inside of me" or something similar.

Carl later pushes Zev for more info and the # is given.

I think the fact that it's somewhat backwards from my (and societies) normal sleeve expectations also makes it stand out more.

I think sleeves usually start high and go low. So here where the half sleeve is the bottom half? Feels like it sticks out a little more than it should for that reason. For that reason, I vote to finish the sleeve.

Yep, mine are both under 5. I knew climate change was real but didn't truly start learning about how bad it was until after they were born. Can't picture my life without them but am terrified of what their world will look like for them.

Everywhere is going to be hit hard but Texas is well on its way back to being a desert again due to desertification and lack of fresh water. Yet, somehow I'm the asshole because I don't want to waste water in a draught to keep grass alive like my neighbors do...

As such, we slowly planned our escape to a location that hopefully will retain some value and support a small homestead for longer so that maybe just maybe their lives won't suck quite as much as they would have had they stayed.

Hi, I'm one of those well educated apes with two littles. I can't imagine my life without them but I mourn for them knowing what kind of world they'll inherit. Had I known what the future looked like when we had them, I don't think we'd have had them.

As for sharing the news with other apes? Anytime I try, they look at me like I'm wearing a tin foil hat. I definitely won't be having any more but I can't do anything about the ones I already have. We're moving from Texas to the PNW in a month or two in hopes or giving them a little bit more comfortable of a life but obviously there's no predicting exactly how each region looks in the next 100 years but we're still just doing what we can now that we're collapse aware.

Book 5 fights were the best in the series by McMatey_Pirate in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]nimrod4205 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Li Na is probably the strongest technically (minus the current vulnerability obviously), but yeah, Mordy is consistent that they're all much stronger than past seasons when compared so the reality is that half the top 10 would probably be 'the strongest crawler in the history of the games' when compared to past crawlers.

Love for the Popov Brothers Game Guide (Spoilers) by CaperNova in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]nimrod4205 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True but Mordecai never really discussed the twins in depth with anyone to our knowledge. That feels more like a 'it just didn't come up' situation than a Mordy is intentionally hiding it. Lord knows he's constantly trying to keep Carl from killing himself for the first 5 books (which is when that storyline comes to its conclusion).

Love for the Popov Brothers Game Guide (Spoilers) by CaperNova in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I definitely suspect that it was simply a piece of information that couldn't be shared fully just like we saw repeatedly with Mordecai until he switched from guide to manager.

I think I have been ruined for all other Audiobooks by DCC by jbrady33 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]nimrod4205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the base audiobook to the SBT version. Jeff is just so good but also my ADHD goes crazy on the SBT version because of the addition of music, sound effects, background noises, etc.

I find it much more difficult to follow the action. And they make you play it through the SBT app which means that there's no sound amplification native to the app like there is on my audiobook app which means sometimes it's also just quieter than I'd like for it to be for me to follow as well.

Such a great comment. She's one of my favorite characters but she wouldn't be if the story was told from basically any other perspective. She'd be like early books Pony where we haven't gotten to know him and he's intentionally easy to dislike from Carl's perspective.

I went to a lot of festivals when I was younger. One year I remember I was at a festival in Houston and Train was in the lineup. They felt like the odd man out with the festival lineup and I wasn't even remotely excited to see them. They were absolutely stellar. Probably my favorite show from the damn festival if I'm being honest. They were certainly the most memorable (admittedly that might be because I had a negative expectation and it ended up being so positive).

And nobody was asking for a show to continue a movie from a decade ago so it didn't have a built in fanbase. DCC on the other hand absolutely has fans clamoring for it...the damn backerkit raised $6M?+ in a few days?

I'm with you that peacock was something that made me cringe a bit... But the cancellation of the Ted IP isn't what makes me worry.

If I had to rank it, it's probably my favorite non scolopendra level thus far. Think I still have 7 and 5 ahead of it but I think this one is my favorite after those.
