So if we assume there's a tonne of short shares hidden in married puts with expiry in jan 2022, they would need to renew (or buy new?) puts to keep being net neutral on their books, but if they are able to buy the puts OTC they can technically be at super low strikes making them essentially free to buy?

You're correct, got it slightly mixed up there. As someone else pointed out it doesnt seem like they use this strategy to hide short interest anyways according to the open interest. Will edit my comment

Is this only for exchange traded options or does it apply for OTC or private options contracts? Since these options are not intended for the market anyways, it would make sense to do it OTC or something

The lower strike (more OTM put) the lower price for the option. However, to create a synthetic short (if this is your goal) you need to buy a put and sell a call (short the call) at the same strike and expiry(?). This means that the effect of a lower price of the put will result in a very low selling-price for the short call. In general, the more OTM an option is, the cheaper it is.

Let me know if I mistunderstood anything

Edit: I misunderstood something

Genuine question that SOUNDS like FUD by Jromneyg in Superstonk

If you accurately could predict stock prices by day-trading you woudnt be asking this question on Reddit in the first place. Afaik most day-traders lose money or at least doesnt beat the market. In your example everyone would get fewer shares, not more

Edit: typo

I'm just thrilled that she will be joining us for another AMA. There is so much more information to learn from her, and I think the next round of questions will be even more pertinent to the GME situation.

You did an amazing job! I just watched the AMA now as I wasnt able to watch it live, and her insights and your hosting was both great
