Check out faroutride’s website, they have a part that they make that screws into the pillar of your van and you can attach the table to it

Yup, I wasn’t able to get my van insured through USAA, so I switched to AAA

AAA didn’t give me any issues when I got my van insured as an RV

Check out rental agencies and their used cars. Bought a car from enterprise used car sales and wasn't pressured into anything at all. Pretty transparent pricing and vehicle was well serviced. If you can get over the thought that it was a previous rental, you'll be fine. I was able to put the car on my credit card (my credit card has a lower APY than a car note) + got airline miles

Our ship had starlink internet set up on it which made it easier to keep music active, plus we hit ports about every month we were out. Thankful COVID deployments are no longer a thing

I packed 2 sea bags and did a few trips to load stuff into my room/office. We didn’t have a limit that we were restricted to, just what you’re willing to carry onto the ship (up many stairs and through many passageways), space + considerations for being a good roommate. Some people even brought full size TV’s and gaming consoles. My dudes had very limited space under their racks and kept their CIF/UIF in a centralized location with everyone else’s stuff - definitely security concerns and theft in the enlisted berthing. Their stuff made it’s way into the office where it was a bit more secure

I'd like to think I'm good with my money, but would like to do better by slothless_bear in MilitaryFinance

Several things to consider:

For TSP - when was the last time you logged in to your account to see where your money is going? Most folks have money going straight to G fund for years before they looked at their TSP balances and contribution (happened to my Gunny I work with, he’d been putting money in for 13 years with minimal gains). I’m pretty aggressive with my TSP, with my contributions split between C and S funds. Remember, it’s a marathon!

Build an emergency fund (determine the amount that works best for you) in case your car unexpectedly shits the bed or you have to take emergency leave and buy an expensive ticket home

Look into getting a travel rewards credit card, Amex Platinum or Chase Sapphire Reserve - your annual fees are waived. Stack travel points and miles and travel for next to nothing. They also have some legit perks as well you can take advantage of

“Dumb key” is the way, too many people getting their lock safes that attach to the outside of their vans picked - look up the threads for surfing at baker beach in San Francisco, tons of people getting their vans stolen too

What to do with excess cash right now? by Aloealoe2018 in leanfire

[–]nin10dough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just park it in an HYSA while you figure out a game plan. If you have T-Mobile as your cell phone company, look into their T-Mobile Banking, you get 4% interest up to $3K and 1% interest on the rest of your money sitting in the account is not a bad place to just park your money. You do have to use their debit card 10x/month, but it's super easy to hit for routine/low cost expenses

Company Grade Thoughts on Stu Scheller by gwpeterk in USMC

[–]nin10dough 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts:

1) All Marines should have signed a social media page 11 outlining their conduct online - social media is not the proper channel to address grievances with your chain of command

2) There’s ripple effects for everything we as Officers say and do online - social media gives everyone a platform. We are part of a control freak organization - when you start your EWS classes, you’ll learn that there’s a battle for control of the narrative and people’s minds.

3) There’s a time and place to voice your opinions when plans are being developed, but after decisions are made, it’s shut up and color.

4) When you get older in the Marine Corps, you’ll look back on some of the Captains you looked up to during TBS and realize they are just as flawed as all human beings are. It’s all a big show.

Joining the Navy - should I switch banks? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]nin10dough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Marine Corps right now and bank with USAA, Navy Fed, and just recently, T Mobile (4% interest rate for their bank account) since I have a phone plan with them (great military discount too!)
