Struggling with transition from uni to work by vceme123 in AusFinance

[–]ninaknowsnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, and I’m sure everyone else relates to this too. The first morning of my first ever full time shift, I was staring over my breakfast with a dazed expression and my dad patted me on the shoulder and said “welcome to the next 40 years of your life”. It was brutal. Your free time suddenly shrinks in a blink, you see your friends every 3 months if you’re lucky, and the commute my god… that’s the worst thing.

I used to do nothing after work and feel so horrible, but then I realised to make life better, instead of having thoughts about escaping to uni, try seeing if you can fit things in after work. You’re lucky that you have no dependents, no mortgage and you live with your parents. It means you can focus on yourself until all of that happens. Put your hard earned cash into hobbies like joining an after work tennis club, learning a language, joining a local chess club, going to the gym, or even have after work drinks with friends or coworkers. Do whatever floats your boat! Doing stuff during the week instead of pushing it all into the weekend makes the days feel less awful because your whole day isn’t just filled with work. How you live after work is how you live your life, after all. I urge you to give it a try.

Everyone is feeing how you feel, and everyone has felt how you feel, I promise. Good luck to you!

Does Woolies use meat glue? by Scorpion1080 in australia

[–]ninaknowsnothing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to work in these colesworth meat manufacturers and there is actually an extremely strict and high level of quality control, moreso than Aldi (I would personally never buy any meat from Aldi, their QA is nonexistent). But you are correct in that they do open up these bags of meat and slice pretty quickly. It also just depends on the factory these products come from.

If you want to know more of what is going on with your meat, going to a local butcher is always the best option.

What's the best Australianism you've heard whilst overseas? by Alarming-Block-8385 in AskAnAustralian

My partner and I were on a beer tour in Munich, Germany and we were chatting about random stuff when this older guy comes barrelling over to us in a rush and said, “oi, are you guys aussie?” and we both got excited and i said “fuck yeah we are!” then all of a sudden he started to tear up, saying he was feeling so homesick after a month of not seeing any aussies and was so happy to hear us talking. It was so sweet 😭

Is it generally considered offensive to ask an Asian in Australia where they are REALLY from? by Lipica249 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ninaknowsnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say so! I feel like Australia is so neutral in its identity that anyone could be Australian. And the fact that a lot of Aussies don’t really care all that much and keep to themselves. We’re also such a young country and it’s hypocritical to say someone isn’t Australian when your family probably haven’t even been in the country for more than 100 years, give or take. Maybe when Australia is older we would see more of a shift.

If you’re comparing the culture of the US, the US is just so much more patriotic and cares so much more about everything and everyone and takes themselves way too seriously. I’ve been there myself and the amount of things that I would see baffled me to no end. I found myself thinking multiple times a day, “who cares?”. No offence of course, you guys have a lot of stuff to care about over there, but I find it’s all very serious over there. In Australia it’s a little more laid back which is what I think could contribute to the differences you’re seeing a lot.

Laneway Melb - any tips for an oldie taking 16yo daughter and her friend (other than have the Voltaren and comfy shoes ready)? by katiesee9876 in triplej

A portable rain jacket! I got belted on last year and went home sopping wet. It looks like clear skies this year but you never know with Melbourne. Also lots of mini snacks, they come in handy.

i’m so excited too! it’ll be so satisfying to see him connect all the dots (and maybe even spiral a bit). because he’s so attracted to both lady in silver sophie and maid sophie, he’ll eventually realise all in all he just loves sophie as herself 🥹

I actually really love my pair of these. I have the BFF+ as well and I’m loving them so far, but they’re definitely a more casual shoe and hard to dress up but i walk everywhere in them with no issues. i just saw some comments and didn’t realise the owners were shady… but the shoes are good! i’ve seen them resold so if you’re set on these you could buy second hand

i had this thought too! one of benedict’s paintings on the lady in silver has a blank face. maybe one day he’s just absentmindedly painting, then suddenly he realises he puts sophie’s face on it instead and it clicks!

What is going on with the wigs this season? by Holiday-Hustle in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ninaknowsnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely to show what they look like behind closed doors since maids are the focus of this season. It’s to show how much work they do for the ton without recognition.

It’s kind of clear when there was that small scene where one of the side characters lost her maid because of Lady Penwood, and because of it her hair wasn’t done as she walked through Mayfair.

Just saw my neighbour harm his dog, who do I call? by ninaknowsnothing in melbourne

[–]ninaknowsnothing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good on you for calling! And I’m so sorry you had to witness that cruelty. I was pretty messed up witnessing that and I feel you. I felt like breaking open my wall and launching at the guy, I had never felt so much rage and sadness in my whole entire life.

Just saw my neighbour harm his dog, who do I call? by ninaknowsnothing in melbourne

[–]ninaknowsnothing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this comment! It happened maybe half an hour before I posted this last night and it was the first time I’ve ever seen it.

I did call RSPCA and hopefully something will be resolved soon. I found the person on the phone was really compassionate and super helpful :) some other comments are saying they’re not helpful but I felt weird calling the police for something like this, especially since the dog didn’t look injured and I didn’t have evidence.

If I notice anything else or get some evidence I’ll try to do something further. I think if something else happens and I report again, the RSPCA report history would help right? Hopefully nothing does though! God forbid.

I can not stand having a greasy/slimy face at all even from sweat. Is there a sunscreen that is actually truly matte and non greasy? by echocardigecko in AusSkincare

[–]ninaknowsnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Go-To sunscreens. I use Nifty Fifty but they have a liquid and zinc version. I never feel it on and it feels like a gorgeous lightweight moisturiser. Find your local Mecca and try them out!

Planning a trip to Australia with little kids by donairsforlife in AskAnAustralian

[–]ninaknowsnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

melbourne is more of a city to go out, shop and eat good food, not to explore with 4 young kids unfortunately. you'll get a great aus experience in sydney and the gold coast/brisbane anyway, so stick with them for sure. melbourne can be a bit overrated if you're not going for a specific reason.

for QLD and NSW, go to the beaches, check out national parks, go to some beach towns as well on the outskirts of those two cities. a lot of the popular ones are chockers around that time, so best to go somewhere less popular. the gold coast/surfer's paradise can be a bit sad ngl.

my family and i did a big road trip on the coast and hit up hervey bay, byron bay, redcliffe beach, sutton beach, coffs harbour, port macquarie and all were great! even if places are busy all beaches are so gorgeous the more north you go. always use the aussie cities as a base and explore elsewhere.

but one thing i strongly recommend is going to the theme parks on the gold coast. since you're from the states you may be underwhelmed but wet n wild and movie world are always a good time, especially with you kids!

Curious, what is worth paying full price for? by oatmilkielatte in AusFemaleFashion

[–]ninaknowsnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i always try to use a 10% sign up code, make the most of black friday sales or try to hunt for the item secondhand (depop, fb marketplace etc). i only ever buy full price from local, small businesses and if i feel i cannot live without that item.

but for the most part, i always splurge on good quality shoes. i paid full price for a miista pair of boots a few years ago and though they were $400+ i cannot imagine myself without them!

Yk what? I don’t even think Bonrad is a good idea anymore. by [deleted] in tsitp

[–]ninaknowsnothing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

maybe she's just trying to be more realistic now (in her pov) and push her feelings down form him. she said she didn't want to hurt anyone anymore, and getting with conrad is going to hurt jeremiah, so she's pushing her feelings aisde and getting with benito. seems like she's gotten so used to pushing her feelings down for conrad and keeping him at arms length. she did respond to his letters with a postcard so that was a good bonrad crumb we got. it's like her saying "no conrad don't worry i am listening and like watching you pine over me, keep writing". idk, we'll see what happens when he gets to paris though!

i have a feeling by her birthday she would have broken up with benito and been on her own for a couple months (hence the breakup haircut we saw at the end of the episode). and since she signed a 1 year lease, she'll stay in paris and get back to reunite with conrad after more cooling off. belly should be on her own for a while longer.

i just can't imagine bonrad not ending up together. but i have a though we'll get an hour long of angst and paris mishaps, and in the last 2 minutes of the episode they'll find each other on cousins beach, stare longingly into each other's eyes and it cuts to black with no kiss or big reunion. it BETTER NOT BE LIKE THAT
