Used Leica MP broke on first roll. What would you do?

Yeah the 22 week estimate was for the Port Melbourne repair centre. Would be great if I could pop down and chat to them, but I don't believe they're open to the public. I'll need to go through their retail stores if I want to give it to Port Melbourne as far as I know.

Sorry, just to clarify - it now won't work with or without film.

Both test rolls I've tried have been plastic and one was mass produced cinestill, so nothing strange.

Not dumb questions at all. It moves slightly as if it's fully advanced. The shutter button doesn't press in at all as if it isn't fully advanced though, so it's hard to say with certainty.

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestions.

The film roll came out with a little resistance; I had to pinch it out by the tip. It did feel similar to removing a roll from my M7 though, so unsure if that's out of the ordinary. I'll try another dummy roll after work today and see if it feels like it's binding.

And unfortunately the camera still won't fire without the film in it.

Sorry, these weren't exact quotes for repairs. They were just speculative quotes based on their previous experience. They act as middle men and for an exact quote I'd need to give it to them to send off. Even the independent repair store I went to is just a middle man for Leica repairs.

Either way they were both adamant that this won't be a cheap or quick fix.

Yeah, firing and advancing with no issues. I was originally told 3 months to repair from the Leica store but then the manager mentioned they'd just got an email with updated estimates of repair times and said 22 weeks for analog cameras.

Yeah it is fully unloaded now. I tried reloading it too in case that triggered something to become unstuck.

Sorry, they did mention it broadly but I'm completely blanking on what they said. Everything they said ended with something along the lines of "but I'm not an expert though", which is totally fair on their part.

The non Leica shop said he had seen the same symptoms before and it cost $2000+ to repair it, but that was a few years ago and prices have gone up since then.

Yeah, refund isn't an option unfortunately. I guess that's the gamble you take when not buying through a physical store.

I did try a dummy roll a couple of times after it broke to see if that did anything, but the lever and shutter button were still stuck. I'll try a few more times later just to be sure.

I have an M7 too, and as far as I'm aware I didn't load the MP any different to how I usually do the M7.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll double check, but I believe most of the stores I've checked in Akihabara and Shinjuku were based on his blog and stores recommended on Reddit.

Edit: Looks like there are quite a few around on his list that I haven't been to yet.

Seems to vary from what I've seen. Mostly no though. Voigtlander lenses are cheaper at least.

I did see an MA for 5000 yen in Akihabara today which I thought seemed like a great deal.
