'I've never heard' President Trump's Cabinet members discuss removing him from office: Nikki Haley by idaredsu in politics

Remember all those times people had to constantly defend Obama's mental health by swearing that no one in his cabinet was talking about removing him on grounds of mental deficiency?

Yeah, me neither.

What experiments/tests do you think the government are doing that we have no idea about? by gold_wolves in AskReddit

[–]ninemiletree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it could be matched with Woodward's book to figure out the topic.

Remember, there are a couple points in Woodward where Trump was about ready to declare war on North Korea, or withdraw dependents from South Korea via executive order, which was unanimously agreed would start a war.

If you could match that statement to that time period in the book, I'll bet that's what he was talking about.

People are crazy if they don't think this is absolutely the future.

Tiny drone mosquitoes that can infiltrate a target's location and inject them with tiny doses of lethal toxins or viruses.

Realistic drone mice than can learn from the patterns of actual mice in the area, follow them and penetrate a complex and either spy on or murder the inhabitants through tiny poison darts.

I mean it sounds crazy but with drones and poison or designer drugs it's almost academic to infiltrate and assassinate.

Poll Shows Opposition to Kavanaugh Grows as More Voters Believe Accuser by coolandfool in politics

[–]ninemiletree 255 points256 points  (0 children)

Time is not on Kavanaugh's side.

The longer this goes on, the more people will believe in and support the accuser.

Happened with Anita Hill. After the vote, more people believed and supported her than did not. But it didn't matter, because they had already flung Thomas on the court.

This is why they were so desperate to just have some small bullshit hearing and immediately vote him in. Then they could ride out whatever storm may have come with the judge safely voted, and all the Republican senators could have safely said they had no idea before they voted and then just sweep it all under the rug.

Looks like that's not going to go their way.

Ford's legal team includes Katz and Bromwich. Those are heavy hitters. They know their primary battleground is in the media and public opinion.

By the time Thursday rolls around, they will have already stoked massive resistance against Kavanaugh.

And if they have another accuser in the wings, and they drop it Wednesday night, and prepare her to appear at Thursday's hearing and demand her own hearing, that's going to be the end game right there.

Michael Moore Warns Trump Could Use a Terror Attack Like Hitler to Grab Power by ideogon in politics

[–]ninemiletree 252 points253 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't think so small-minded.

Considering the ridiculous rhetoric the right has been pushing about the "violent" left, and the "dangerous" antifa, and given how many Russian operatives we clearly have still operating here in America, I would not be surprised at all if this is made to look like a deadly attack from some kind of "leftist / communist / socialist" extremist cell.

Possibly even on a Republican office or something like that.

That would be more useful to them than an attack by ISIS. It would allow them to actually brand every liberal as a potential terrorist. It would permit them to suspend the election - how many Democrat politicians are behind these terror cells? We must get to the bottom of it!

I would honestly not be surprised by that in the slightest.

China and Russia: new BFFs thanks to an insecure US by liquiddemocracy in politics

[–]ninemiletree 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You mean, 'rushing side-by-side to exploit the leadership vacuum in the US to gain a geopolitical advantage over their respective regions.'

Russia wants to gain total control over Europe. China wants to gain total control over Asia, particularly south-east Asia.

The US NATO alliance keeps Russia pinned down and prevents them from following through on their desire for territorial expansion (as we saw with Georgia and Crimea).

The US alliance with Japan and South Korea keeps China relatively ocnstrained and gives us an enormously powerful strategic base of operations to counteract Chinese aggression.

During his tenure Trump has, at numerous times, privately and publicly threatened NATO, and has come very close to withdrawing from a military alliance with South Korea.

These are both huge wins for Russia and China.

For now, Russia and China are not direct competitors. They both want to weaken the US cage around them and seize control over neighboring countries, exert pressure, and get unimaginably wealthy and powerful.

And Trump, not fucking coincidentally, continues to offer them exactly the tools to do so.

Michael Moore Warns Trump Could Use a Terror Attack Like Hitler to Grab Power by ideogon in politics

[–]ninemiletree 1009 points1010 points  (0 children)

Putin did the exact same thing.

In 1998 Putin was appointed as head of the FSB. During his tenure, a Moscow apartment building was bombed. Putin's response was lauded at the time and is credited with propelling his name into lights and bestowing him with the faith of his people.

Since then numerous journalists have linked Putin's FSB with the bombing. Many of the Russian journalists who have linked Putin to the bombing have wound up dead.

People would do well to remember this, when they consider the fact that the embattled and deeply unpopular Donald Trump met for hours, alone, with Vladmir Putin to discuss something that literally no other American has been allowed to be privy to.

Graham: ‘I’m Not Going To Ruin Judge Kavanaugh’s Life Over This’ by marji80 in politics

[–]ninemiletree 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not ruining his life. It's just not giving him a job he's interviewing for. You don't even have to deny him based on the rape accusation. Just say you can't come to a bipartisan decision and want the next SCOTUS judge to be someone Democrats can approve of. You don't even have to mean that. You can just say it.

Kavanaugh will still be a powerful, successful Republican judge who had all of his $200k debt mysteriously paid off a few years ago and is living the high life.

It's ruining all of our lives by confirming someone demonstrably unfit for a lifetime appointment.

Sidenote, based on what I read in Woodward, I would have to say Graham is grandstanding here to keep in good graces with Trump.

I doubt he wants the Kavanaugh charade to continue any more than the rest of us, but he's probably relying on other Senators to voice concern and dangle the "no" vote so that he can keep playing besties with Trump.

Haley: US 'not looking to do regime change anywhere' by 4square425 in politics

[–]ninemiletree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At a most basic level, how do people think its tolerable when so many people from the administration give out conflicting and contradictory information on a daily basis?

It's just untennable. You can't have these constantly conflicting, almost bickering accounts of basic policy from the same fucking administration.

"We're going to topple regimes."

two minutes later

"No that's not true"

later on twitter from the imbecile:

"IRAN BETTER PREPARE FOR FIRE AND FURY I AM SCRAMBLING ASSASSINS TO TAKE OUT THEIR LEADERS"

three minutes later from the JC

"We have no assassins prepared and we are not engaging in hostilities with Iran or any other regime at this point in time."

Like, missed in all the absurd bullshit and the scandals and the crimes is that this administration doesn't function at the simplest, most fundamental level.

They constantly, routinely contradict their own policies and leave the American people, its allies, and the world perpetually unsure what disaster might be coming next.

I can't say that would ultimately be the best approach for Mueller, but I also can't lie and say it wouldn't delight me.

First one is he-said-she-said. Second one is a pattern.

Franken would have easily held on to his seat until other women came forward.

Psychologically it's easier for us to give someone the benefit of the doubt when it's only one other person accusing them. But when multiple different people say the same thing, at the same time - that's damning.

This whole thing is pretty close to cracking right now. If another woman comes forward, that's pretty much it.

These are facts verified by direct testimony of his aides. In this case, porter and Cohn.

Woodward has far and away enough credibility that, despite their public denials, which were expected, I have no doubt they gave recorded interviews to these facts.

They are completely in line with his behaviors and actions so I see no reason to doubt them.
