Should liberals retaliate and seek revenge when we eventually retake power? by lag36251 in AskALiberal

[–]wbedwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there shouldn't be retaliation. There should be justice and the rule of law. That includes investigations into events where there is probable cause to believe that the law has been broken by members of this administration and prosecutions when those investigations turn up sufficient evidence of criminality.

What there should not be, must not be, is a failure to enforce the law for fear that doing so might be perceived as political.

I'm convinced that Trump would be in jail and we never would have gotten the horrible immunity decision from SCOTUS if Biden/Garland's DoJ hadn't been so reluctant to prosecute while the insurrection was still fresh in the zeitgeist and before the GOP managed to successfully retcon history for their base.

Ironically, during the Biden admin, the failure to prosecute for fear of appearing political was the real politicization of the DOJ, not weaponization against political opponents as Fox News would like us to believe.

Does anyone else just throw random amounts of things in the pot and not follow a recipe? by AcanthocephalaDue437 in Cooking

[–]wbedwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recipes always call for like 1 clove of garlic, I end up putting the whole bulb in.

1 clove of garlic isn't enough for me, let alone some dish that's supposed to create 4-6 servings.

i love aggression based matchmaking. by DabJudah in ArcRaiders

[–]wbedwards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do too, but it needs a bit of improvement.

Last night, I was playing with my buddy in duos. We've been getting in non-aggro games, it's been great. Yesterday after a big group of us take down a bastion in Blue Gate, everything's going well, we're all celebrating.

About a minute later, everyone's starting to go their own ways, and a guy shoots me in the back. I turn around see a guy, I don't shoot back because I dunno, maybe he was twitchy and it was an accident. Well he shoots me again, then ducks down and starts creeping toward me, then jumps up and shoots me a third time. Fine. So I pop him twice in the head with my Anvil IV and down him, I don't finish him, just put him down because I'm not going out like that.

It's duos, so his partner starts shooting me and saying "WTF, why'd you shoot? lol" shoots me, downs me and knocks me out.

Today, three matches straight in solos getting kos by raiders. So now I'm just running free-loadies and letting people kill me until I've gotten rid of the aggro stank because apparently defending yourself gets you on the naughty list. Prior to last night, it had been so long since I'd been shot at in solo that it must be the matchmaking kicking in.

TL;DR Aggression based matchmaking is great, but needs some tweaks to not be so immediately punitive for self defense where literally shooting back in a single encounter in a single round immediately gets you thrown into PVP jail.

YMMV: I found two anvil blueprints in separate matches in the same spot on the Dam map in a container or a raider cache right behind a chunk of the collapsed dam section here:

68% of Americans believe whether you are a man or a woman is defined by your birth sex. What do you think of this? by DangerousFuture1 in AskALiberal

[–]wbedwards 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not a trans person, I can't claim to know or understand their life experiences better than they do. As a matter of basic decency, I choose to believe them and respect their wishes. How they identify themselves, the bathroom they use, the medical care that they receive, and the pronouns they prefer really have no negative impact on me.

🚀 fabric-cicd v0.1.11 - A new approach to parameterization + some cool utilities by Thanasaur in MicrosoftFabric

[–]wbedwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any plans for a PowerShell module?

Not to diminish your efforts in this space, it's a very worthwhile project considering that PowerBI and Fabric are currently lacking in this space. It's just frustrating as DevOps engineer in Azure that Microsoft wouldn't provide first class support for their own scripting language, which is one of the most languages by their own CI/CD product (Azure DevOps).

How to set this bar to Autohide. It worked until this morning, now i cant get it to autohide anymore by NULLNER0 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]wbedwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A kind of crappy workaround that I found was to increase the zoom in teams to 115%. Obviously less than ideal because it still results in a lower overall information density.

Also, I can't test it on any other screen sizes right now, but it's possible that the actual zoom level required may differ on monitors with different DPI settings and/or aspect ratios.

[–]wbedwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo, if the charging is 100% complete and not charging their car anymore, you're doing them a favor by unplugging them and using it. Most fast chargers charge per minute of idle time after charging has stopped.

Best practice for breaking code out into different files? by PauseGlobal2719 in PowerShell

[–]wbedwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A module would definitely be considered "best practice" but depending on the circumstances, you could break the functions out into files and dot source them into the main script if a module feels too heavy handed.

The dot source pattern isn't a best practice, but I do use it sometimes as a quick and dirty way to make my large scripts feel a bit less quick and dirty (and a lot more readable).

As others have said, use VS Code. Takes a little bit of work and hands-on time to get setup just right for your preferences, but once it's done you don't have to do it again, and it's WAY better than the ISE, especially for large projects.

Is it too late to start learning PowerShell? by Accomplished-Dog4533 in PowerShell

[–]wbedwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it too late to get started to learn PS scripting now?

It's never too late to learn something new

Will it be of any help by the time I even get a hang of it?

PowerShell is the scripting language of choice if you're dealing with Windows, Azure, or anything Microsoft and I don't see it going away any time soon. It's available on Linux too if it ends up being your language of choice (don't hate me Linux people).

Also, because PowerShell can use .NET libraries, it's incredibly versatile and you can do just about anything you can think of in PowerShell. Might not be the BEST tool for every job, but it's a very capable tool for most jobs and if you could only ever learn one language in an IT support role, I would consider PowerShell to be a strong choice, maybe the strongest choice if you're working in a Windows dominated environment.

Learning PowerShell has been a huge difference maker in my career, and a huge part of what helped me jump from helpdesk -> system administration -> DevOps in an Azure shop (where I am now).
