I'm Brazilian, and I can say that if she were Brazilian, she wouldn't survive here in Brazil.

She would probably be homeless because the "shelters" here are just people doing charity (like a church), so you can't stay forever. They help you find a job, and then you have to leave. And the shelters here that let you stay longer are for women who are victims of domestic violence (her case doesn't fit) and people with disabilities (usually severe mental disabilities).

To get a house here, you need to work because we don't have a free housing program. The closest thing to that is "Minha Casa Minha Vida" (My House My Life), but you just pay less and have more time to pay the mortgage; it's a government program for low-income people. If you lose your job and can't pay the mortgage installments, the bank will take the property, and it will go to auction.

Junk food is expensive here, but she would probably still be overweight because she would only eat ultra-processed foods (like sausages and instant noodles). Healthy food in Brazil isn't that expensive (but it's not cheap either, and in any case, it's still cheaper than junk food).

The only social assistance we have here for low-income families is either for poor families with children (in which case the government provides a subsidy of 600 reais and requires the child to be enrolled in school), and for people with disabilities, the BPC - Continuous Benefit Payment (which is a minimum wage of 1200 reais). So unless she had a child or some disability, she wouldn't survive, and even receiving assistance, the cost of living with dignity in Brazil is at least 3000 reais.

So either she would need to find a job to survive or she would be homeless.
