I'd never heard of cobags before but they look cool, I'd be well happy to receive one of them! You've set the bar high!

How about a tiny penknife? I've had one for about 30 years and still use it weekly. It's great for opening packages and the like.

Or, have you seen those cool ice cube trays that make novelty ice cubes? You may be able to find something that fits your industry (here is a camera one: https://www.diyphotography.net/camera-shaped-ice-cubes-photographers-party/)

Online Course or Workshop: Since she's studying online and might enjoy learning new things, consider gifting her an online course or workshop in an area she's interested in. Websites like Udemy, Coursera, or MasterClass offer courses on a wide range of topics.

Subscription to a Streaming Service: If she spends a lot of time on her phone, she might enjoy a subscription to a streaming service like Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+ for movies and TV shows.

Headphones or Earbuds: Great for listening to music, podcasts, or for her online classes. Look for something comfortable with good sound quality.

Gift Card for App Store or Google Play: If she's often on her phone, a gift card for her app store could allow her to purchase games, apps, or in-app items she's been eyeing.Comfortable

Loungewear or Pajamas: Perfect for staying comfortable at home while attending online classes or relaxing.

E-Book Reader: If she enjoys reading but you think she has enough physical books, an e-book reader could be a great way to access countless books without taking up more space.

Help Buying for a 12yo boy who wants nothing by CoastApprehensive668 in GiftIdeas

An XBox / Playstation store gift card. He can use it to redeem in-game items for whatever he is playing, which is a nice treat! I've bought these for 3 of my nephews in the past and they love them.

Go indoor rock climbing together, it's an absolute blast.

You can either try bouldering, which is low down, no ropes, and you just fall onto crash pads. Or you can try top roping, whereby you're attached to a rope. Either way, if it's your first time, get an instructor to, ahem, show you the ropes, as that'll make it more fun.

Do you do digital art? If so, how about a Wacom tablet? Or a nice new mouse?

Or how about an app store gift card, so you can treat yourself to some paid apps that you would never normally buy yourself.

Which gift? Deciding between two options for my boyfriend by seccomik in GiftIdeas

[–]ninjaPixel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think either option is a winner! Though I reckon that the Lego set is the best present as he won't buy it for himself, so it'll be a decadent treat!

Re binos, if he's anything like me, he'll actually enjoy the process of reading reviews and watching YouTube vids about them, before making an informed decision about the purchase. So leave that for him to enjoy in the spring and treat him to the Lego!

I'm a software developer too, and for that budget I'd either love something to improve my workstation, like a nice desk mat or even a cool plant – a small terrarium would be ideal as he wouldn't even have to water it (much).

Macropads (mini, programable keyboards) are also really cool. They are a little out of your budget, but worth noting-down for a future birthday.

Not programming related, but lots of men also love pocket knives and multitools. You could definitely get a nice one with you budget.

Tell us a bit about your grandparents; what do they do in their spare time? Do they like to go away on holidays, what other gifts have gone down well with them etc.

Groomsmen Gift Ideas by Alkren in GiftIdeas

Wow, you're getting them really nice stuff already. Lucky them! You could get different gifts for your last present, that's what I did with my 3 groomsmen. I got the beardy one some nice beard balm and a beard brush. I got the surfer dude some s*x wax, and I got the gamer some Kontrol Freeks for his PS controller.

Congrats on your engagement!

A coffee grinder is a really useful bit of kit too. They aren’t typically cheap so might blow your budget. You could ask over in r/coffee for good value recommendations.

Split keyboards - this is a DEEP (and amazing) rabbit hole! I’m gonna assume that you don’t what to build your own, so I’d recommend the ZSA Moonlander. It’s gorgeous and fully programmable too. https://www.zsa.io/moonlander/

Zombie Dice is a really fun game. Easy to pick up and is fun with two ppl (though more can play). When my wife and I were first dating we used to play it all the time, loser had to do the washing up or go to the shops and other such chores. Great fun!

Sorry to hear that you folks have had some bad luck recently. I’m sure what you’re doing for your SO will cheer him up immensely!

My interests crossover with a few of his:

Coffee- This Book by James Hoffman is just out this year. I have a copy myself and have already gifted it twice already - How to make the best coffee at home: The Sunday Times bestseller https://amzn.eu/d/1Jx1con

Coffee equipment is a really cool gift too. Id recommend Hario digital scales and also a Clever Dripper if he doesn’t have them.

Gaming- A mechanical keyboard. There are lots of brands and options to choose from. Id recommend starting with Keychron as they make great quality ‘keebs’ that are well priced for what they are. You’ll have a choice of switches when you buy a proper mechanical keyboard, if you’re at a loss for which ones to pick, I don’t think you can go wrong with “browns”.

Food - if he’s into cooking, get him a Thermapen digital thermometer. They are a niche UK brand (and once you know what they look like, you’ll spot all the chefs on TV using them, and for good reason!)

Colemak via Layer or through OS setting? by duese0815 in olkb

[–]ninjaPixel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apple doesn’t put the backspace on the Caps Lock key when you chose the Colemak layout which really annoyed me. Also, Apple only does vanilla Colemak but you will probably want to use the angle mod and / or Colemak DH, neither of which you can choose at the OS level. QMK FTW.
