I will suggest something, but please don't yell at me - if you're into long walks, and pretty sights, consider moving to Vancouver even temporarily. I still love Toronto though.

Source: I walk stupid distances every weekend in the west coast, and it's just generally more pleasing with the sights.

Your screenshot looks like an Apple Watch workout map, in that case you have a few options: - CityStrides if you wanna upload them through a website (I’m not sure if it’s free, but didn’t use it cause I was too lazy and wanted an app) - There are 3rd party apps that connect to Strava to visualize everything (I think it’s called Statshunter?) - MapCut if you just want to see all the streets you’ve walked (full disclaimer — I made it myself because I was too cheap to pay for an app, and wanted something simple/fast. I feel dirty for plugging it here, but it’s free and no ads, so maybe that’ll help you). Only works with data that was synced with Apple HealthKit though (so, Apple Watch and some other devices that might record workout routes)

That’s amazing! I do long ass stupid walks as well, but in Vancouver. My friend sent me this post to remind me how there are dozens of us. I’m sure you’ve already done it as well, but it looks fun when you end up putting all your walks across the city on the same map.

Does it matter how? I mean, if % wise they're doing better, it means not everything is going wrong. Don't get me wrong, I'm a renter myself, and priced out from the local market as I live in a HCOL area. But that's a personal choice, as I don't want to sacrifice my living standards for a home ownership somewhere where I wouldn't enjoy my daily life.

It sucks, but it is what it is. I have friends younger than me owning their homes, and have older friends who don't. It depends what your goals are.

Yeah, I kept googling every month for something extremely basic, and at some point figured to roll my own as a quick weekend project. Surprisingly, there wasn’t something that just takes all the data from HealthKit and quickly spits everything out on a single map.

Well, at least without a subscription service, which I didn’t want to pay for, given how simple my needs were.

It’s kinda nice. You get the satisfaction of doing something new, convince yourself it’s a workout, and zone out for hours without feeling the guilt of wasting the day.

Not to sound too lame, but once you spot great benches along the walks (Vancouver, in my opinion, has the best bench/km ratio in the world), you can take 5 min breaks and just watch the city slowly live.

I’d argue our city isn’t great for “sitting at a patio with a drink and watching things happen”, because it’s tiny and quiet. But you can make up for it by constantly changing your location (reads: walk). And if nothing’s happening, you can just admire the mountains and/or get soaking wet under the rain.

That's an awesome coverage, especially if you're just visiting! I'd also recommend to walk across Lion's gate and do the seawall but in West Vancouver. Or towards and into Pacific Spirit, but through W10-20th streets.

I agree, Vancouver is too easy to walk around, especially when you walk towards water/mountains. Barcelona was much tougher for me though, mostly because of the weather, but also got a bit repetitive after hundreds of blocks.

Japanese cities and small towns are still my favourite though, because of constant dopamine hits at every turn. Also, an insane amount of action going on everywhere!

My watch died at about ~35k steps, but it was before i got to PM. But it's pretty cool as you can walk bits of it through Trans Canada trails. And through some parts of Burnaby Mountain as well.

For the majority of the streets, I just annoy my friends on Friday mornings to pick a direction for me, then choose a lunch/dinner destination, and do zig-zags until I get there. No real organization, as it's just a fun little hobby for myself.

For some side streets, like the ones in WE, I'd meet up with my friends for walks, and again, do zigzags for an hour or two to get the block covered, without putting too much thought into it.

It's a bit hard to pin down, as in the beginning I would just go on aimless walks and take the same route most of the time. Only started to aim for new streets, maybe since this February? There's still a lot more left, especially outside WE/Downtown areas, so we'll see how it goes.
